My family visited here on Mothers Day and we were really surprised with the food, it was better than expected for a reasonable price. I was however really disappointed with the service. As it was Mothers Day there were 3 sittings which seemed ambitious, this would of worked well if the food had of been brought out very quickly but everything seemed fine until the manager possibly came to the table and made a point of looking at his watch before asking us if we wanted a dessert... which we did, he then checked his watch again and went off without a word. We then felt pressured to get out quickly... especially when he added another table to the end of ours in ready for the next sitting. A family celebration was spoilt.

Had an acceptable Sunday lunch here last weekend, nothing special, but for the price I'd say it was good value, and it was served quickly and with plenty of tasty gravy and a big bowl of mixed veg. I dont know about you but pubs that stint on the gravy with a sunday lunch really piss me off!

Not often do I taste gravity beers in a pub and this had a couple of Arkell's by that dispense. The pub is split between a comfy bar and a not so comfy bar but both had fires which was nice as the temperature outside was about 4C. Ticks all the boxes.

OK so it's Arkell's beers but served from the barrel. I had the moonlight and it was in very good form indeed. There is a spit and sawdust small public bar and a large lounge bar that obviously caters for food. Both bars had a welcoming real fire.

Stayed here on numerous occaisions and the ale is always well kept, Arkells was always good and they seemed to change the guess beer with regularity. Have always found the evening food to be just ok but the breakfast, cooked by a lovely lady is brilliant
