I've lived in the village for nearly thirty years and seen this pub pass through a number of hands, some good, some less so. George IV is back to its best with good beers and delicious food. A village pub 'feel' has returned and locals are coming back after a period of 'if you are not eating, we aren't interested'. Fact is, now we pop in for a beer or a glass of fizz and then decide to have a bite. Well done The George! I posted a few years ago and pehaps I was too hasty with praise at that time, but as we grow older we gain wisdom. The George has won back a local family.

My high opinion of this pub may be coloured by the sunny weather on both occasions that I visited. The first time I sat outside drinking a pint of Twtichell from the (relatively) local Buntingford brewery (the ubiquitous Doom Bar is also available), and the second time I sat outside having a very nice Sunday lunch - a nice slab of rump roast beef, cooked to perfection.
Parking may be a bit of a problem when the pub gets busy, and it seems more of a food-led pub than some might prefer, but generally it was a very friendly atmosphere in a pleasant locale.

Popped into the George IV while visiting the nearby nature reserve, and I'm glad we did. Beer (Adnams) in good condition, and bar staff very friendly.

Very tempting menu indeed, alll three courses, but we were boring and went for the rib of beef (three of us) and a Peterhead cod. The presentation was excellent and the food very nicely prepared, with the beef cooked to our liking.

Landlord (I assume) brought the food to the table. He was helpful and pleasant.

I'd recommend this place to anyone.

Very disappointed with this pub. I specifically booked the restaurant fand advised them it was for a 60th birthday, so I wanted a nice table. On arrival we were offered only the pub seating and a choice of a table by the door or by the toilets. I cannot comment on the food as we left.
