A Monday afternoon visit to Cockwood for some lunch and a couple of beers.

First stop was the Ship Inn. A very homely pub with an old open fireplace, wooden beams and an overall nautical theme.

4 hand pumps with 4 ales, 1 from Otter, 1 from Dartmouth and 2 from Hanlons. The couple of pints of Hanlons Yellow Hammer @ 4.3% I had was excellent.

Food is popular with an extensive menu and a decent amount of fish options on the special's board. The 4 of us all had sandwich's which were very good and decently priced.

A very nice pub, good food and service, good choice of ales, The Ship is worth a visit and is recommended by me.

Busy little pub when visited although by the end of the evening we were only our own. Beer was well kept if unexciting. Food was acceptable.
Canotcommend on location as it was dark, but had potential.

Visited the Ship with friends for an evening meal. The food was good and the young lady who served as was excellent. However, the person named Chris who I assumed to be the landlord was quite a different story!!! He appeared to be a most miserable and unwelcoming character - where have all the landlords gone?
We were presented with a bill inçluding drinks which we had not had. I accept that mistakes can be made, but when pointed out to him he made no effort at an apology and even worse no word of thanks for the £80+ which was handed to him. Very much doubt that we will visit the Ship again.

It was a nice day so the three of us took the train from Exeter to Starcross and then bus to Cockwood Harbour to enjoy both the Ship and The Anchor. What a good choice - the weather was lovely and both pubs were excellent. The Ship gave us the chance ot try Bays Brewery Topsail which was very nice indeed (2 pints of that one) They also had three other beers and the pub is a nice little "olde-worlde" place with a pleasant patio area to the side. Perhaps a tadge on the low-key side for service (I always give points for a nice friendly welcome to new customers which then makes you feel at home and want to stay). Anyway the beer was fine and we enjoyed the pub in the sunshine.

Had lunch here today. Decent pint, nice food, friendly staff, lovely setting.
Perhaps our single post friend below may have an axe to grind.
