A little gem. Visited early on Friday evening. There was a rocking atmosphere within, against the backdrop of a gorgeous sunset over the Prinsengracht.

The Paasij (meaning Easter Egg) from the IJ brewery was exquisite and, having popped in for just the one, I ended up quaffing three. Although a locals' pub, I was given a VIP's welcome simply for uttering a few words of Dutch at the bar. Moreover, I only ended up paying for one of the three aforementioned Paasij beers.

This pub is well worth the walk along the Prinsengracht to reach, and you will be glad you made the effort.

A big 'hartelijk bedankt' to Jan and Dik for making it such a pleasant session!

Recommended.

Utrechtsestraat is one of the city centre's rare unspoilt neighbourhoods. Ooievaar is just one of the excellent pubs on the street.

Beer drinkers will be pleased to learn that it has five draught beers. There's always something from local microbrewery 't Ij and Brand Urtyp Pilsener, one of Heineken's few decent beers. There are also 4 bottled beers from 't Ij.

I agree with Monopoly it's a great locals pub. Good range of beers and tasty food in addition to what has already been said. I'd chosen not recommend it as I didn't want everyone to know about it. I don't think Lee Newton would like it though.

Mostly locals pub popular with after-work drinkers, it attracts largely young customers but also extends a warm welcome to tourists. A local pub atmosphere but on the edge of the city centre, ideally situated on a corner with large windows for people-watching.
