user reviews of the Black Squirrel, Letchworth

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

After several reincarnations, this pub is now called the Globe Bar and Brasserie. As modern, town-cente pubs go, it's a thick cut above the average and well worth a visit. There's a good selection of lagers and cider, a range of bottled beers perries etc. and two hand pump ales - currently Deuchars IPA and Old Speckled Hen. I understand the new management intend to increase the choice with another pump or vary it by rotating popular ales between the two. Both real ales were in superb condition when I sampled them recently.
They serve bar snacks and there is a more comprehensive menu for the large, tastefully decorated retaurant. I have yet to sample the food (I never eat on empty stomach!) but what I've seen looks very good.
Downside? If you're a smoker, expect to get wet having a puff outside in the rain - but I hear they are working on that too!

This used to be my local (ok not a good thing to admit!). Had a bit of a refit, flirted with Thai food (very good), then became an upmarket mexican for a few months and then finally closed. What next for the "Squirrel"?

This pub is now closed. A Mexican restaurant is in it's place.
