I am surprised that this place has not had more reviews, though it is reasonable to say that it is a restaurant with a bar and not a pub - I have never seen anybody go there just to prop up the (very handsome) bar. Taken as a lunch restaurant it's OK but needs to try a lot harder. It can take an age for somebody to come to seat you. Then to maximise space they have crammed tables in all sorts of places where they should not be - under arches and right next to serving stations. Service has always been good though too often slow. AND, if places list a Dry Martini on their drinks menu it might be a good idea to have somebody behind the bar with a modicum of experience in how to make them. Water should NOT be the principal ingredient!!

Surprised to find Browns on this site as I can concur it definitely is a restaurant with a bar, but I think they do let you in just to have drinks up at the bar, so probably qualifies on that account.
Anyway cannot comment on the drinks offering, as I was not paying attention and believe it is the standard bottled lagers, wine and champagnes at West End prices. But I can review the food, as we tried the pre-theatre menu last night and both our meals were excellent in both quality and price at £14 for two courses. And we had an attentive young South African waiter who was worth the service charge. Then we were back in this afternoon for afternoon tea, when the trouble threw a hissy fit and refused to go in any more characterful London pub’s, “even if it has got Old Scrotum Scratching’s on which is very difficult to find this side of Birmingham”. And I consoled myself that afternoon tea in Browns was very reasonable, especially when compared to what some of the local hotels were expecting me to fork out for a few sandwiches with the crust taken off, a scone and a pot of Earl Grey.

Drinks surprisingly good value for money compared to other local pubs/bars. My only gripe is that iit can take a while to get served.

The Bloody Marys are to die for!

I have been here before for brunch and had great service but last nights experience was less than great.
Our waitress was extremely rude and did nothing but huff and puff at every single request we had. From being chastised at the begining by her for some of our table not turning up, to reaching across the table and grunting when she couldn't reach something, to giving us the wrong bill and slamming the new one down with no apology only a sarcastic comment of 'yes, I realise I have given you the wrong bill' after we politely tried to get her attention.
Needless to say we didn't pay the service charge and even though the food was good myself and 7 others will not be going back.
