called into this pub for a drink during the week, very quiet with just the barman and a couple of others watching a big TV. It lacked a bit of atmosphere, quite stark and bright interior, had a pint and was just about ready to go up and order a second when the barman switched the lights off in the part we were sat in, he had just walked past us so he knew we were there and almost ready for a second drink. but I guess he didnt want any more custom that evening, it was 10.15pm. left as it felt like he wanted us to go, funny thing was as it was so quiet, we had heard him complaining to the others earlier about how quiet the pub was!

Used to like going to this pub, the lady behind the bar was lovely then it was all spoiled by the landlord. Went in to watch the rugby on many of the screens in there and just before the second half he turned it over to the racing without asking if anyone was watching. He knew we were watching and we found this to be very rude. Not sure what he was trying to prove but we drank up and left. Will not be back.

One of the best locations of a pub in the drinkzeist haven that is Barney. Was closed for what seemed like a decade before a radical refurb in 2004. Unfortunately this place is adorned with several screens constantly pumping out britney on mtv or premier league football, no cask ales in sight either. Wouldnt be such a big deal but the average age of a punter here must be 50. If they toned down the bright white decor, dazzling lights and shiny bar : we might have a decent pub that is more in keeping with the atmosphere of the County Bridge and the River Tees that lies 30ft below. At present, worth no more than a pint if on a crawl : but one can hope that some day someone will takeover that is more sympathetic to the gorgeous surroundings of this historic building.
