please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Went there last week, had Watkins OSB and another brew I cannot remember - which was only £2.50 a pint. Both kept well. Had a Madras, which was really good and my wife had Shepard's pie that was OK. The pub harks back to the 70s, but I think that is part of its charm.

It was good to find a pub doing food at 4.30 on a midweek afternoon and the food was decent although a little expensive for fairly basic fair.
What was disappointing was to find that the only ale was,yet again,a flat pint of Doom Bar! By now we were starting to dispair.

We called into the Royal Oak and was at first a little bewildered at the Newports Curry House referance outside but it's just a traditional pub inside that does some really great food.
The menu consists of all the usual kinds of pub food as well as a full list of indian food and some great specials.
I ordered a Rib Eye Steak with chips and my friend ordered a Curry.

The food was really really good, My steak was fantastic and it came with lovely onions and mushrooms as well as a basket of chips. I have to say it was the best Steak i have had at any restaurant and i would love to try some more of their great food

Just spent a week in Newport and went to the Oak most evenings.
A really nice old fashioned village pub with friendly locals, a good pint and cracking food................just make sure you are hungry before ordering

Nice big pub and hotel. Great place to pop into if you are in the area, they do food, have loads of good beers on pulls, have a pool table, and great outside seating. Well worth a visit
