Fantastic little pub with very friendly hosts. Well described by previous reviewers and there is also "Eileen's Garden" at the front. Only open all day on Sundays. The Stowford Press had run out due to heavy demand but that sometimes has to be expected in a village pub. My pint of Lion was impeccable. paul_d102 - 1 Sep 2013 20:56 |
A gem of a village pub. The landlord offers a friendly welcome. There was only one other customer on my Sunday evening visit yesterday. Although I believe it had only just re-opened at 7pm. The landlord is a very amicable guy and takes an interest in his customers. Apparently the local CAMRA made a faux-pas in omitting this pub from the last Good Beer Guide. I think you'll find it in the new one! The three Hook Norton beers - Hooky, Lion & Haymaker are dispensed by gravity from casks behind the bar. They are supplemented by a lovely local cider - Little Orchard Hand Crafted Still Cider. The pub itself is very cosy. Half of it is filled with an array of armchairs and plenty of knick knacks. It feels like somebody's front room, as the previous reviewer notes. Well worth searching out. blue_scrumpy - 5 Aug 2013 19:39 |
Delightful two room village pub, just like being in someone's front room! It's a Hook Norton Brewery pub and when we called in recently for an evening meal they had Hooky Bitter and Old Hooky on, drawn directly from the casks behind the bar. Both were on good form but sadly they didn't have the seasonal beer, despite their website stating that they carry it, I was looking forward to a Haymaker. Good food at reasonable prices and ample portions. A warm welcome and excellent service. Highly recommended. ferend - 30 Sep 2012 12:22 |
What a pleasant change this pub is. It has been recently been taken over and is bright and well decorated. All the cask Hooky beer is served straight from the cask directly behind the bar and for a small pub they were carrying Best, Gold and always Hookies monthly ale. Certificates for beer quality and mangament are on display. A CAMRA Member Pub. The home cooked pub grub had good portions and well priced and I look forward to using the fabulous garden on a more pleasant day. Well worth a drive as only just outside Banbury Cuddles43 - 10 Dec 2009 11:31 |
Its like being in someones living room, but being made welcome at the same time. This pub serves great Hooky straight out of the barrel sometimes. There is a little library and the old boys corner, then the other end, the lads and the telly. A home from home. The garden is terrific on a sunny day. I like the place. imdownthepub - 26 Apr 2007 17:59 |
