On Saturday 23rd January I will go to the great western with a group of ten people. I will get in very early and stay there most of the day. I will purposely sit at table 10 and wait for Paul 36 to come in. I shall then wave at him and say sorry but this table is full you will have to sit upstairs at table 30.

I usually use Wetherspoon's for dining (with beer on the side), but this is one which I have visited just for beer. And I probably would not have if it wasn't raining heavily as I got off the train, as it seemed to do all through my 2015 journey. However, it was pleasant enough, just a few late breakfasting/early lunchers in, so service was good and a pint of Doom Bar (2.29) hit the spot. Very impressive exterior, indoors a little less barn like than some Wetherspoon's.

The exterior of the building is glorious but put together JD Wetherspoon, alcopops, a cavernous interior and all the other issues one associates with that chain and it was never going to be good was it? The ale selection was also more limited than normal.

Very limited beer selection on Wednesday night. Nothing special about this Spoons.

So-so Wetherspoons. Rhymney Export very nice, Marston's Pedigree good, but nothing else of interest. Definitely aimed at the weekend vertical drinker.
