Look, I'm giving this pub 7/10. A high mark for a pub that only had 1 real ale (Harvest pale) on draft 12/9/19. So why? Well, everything felt right.. The Brookside is tucked away, off the beaten track in Barkby, and not somewhere you'll end up if your not trying to find it.. It's in a lovely location, very rural, and (not surprisingly) next to the brook. It's like going back 30 years.. two rooms, maybe in need of a lick of paint, but a lovely, friendly barmaid, great locals and dogs... Garden large, but again, needs tending.. if you sit outside, sit on the front, it's a lovely tranquil setting. I know the Malt shovel is popular, and rightly so, but do try this pub!

The Brookside was to be our second pub of the day on Sunday. But it was closed due to "a family bereavement". Has a lovely setting in this pretty village though. 0/10 for now. But maybe I'll be back to try it again one day.

GBG pub but was below par on recent visit. Despite the many pump clips on the walls only a Ruddles (GK version) was available. According to the locals the previous night had been unexpectedly busy. Always had good local paper write ups so hopefully a one off.

Very friendly and welcoming traditional pub next to a small brook. Jukebox and pooltable free but with low 'easy listening' music.
Excellent food and ales.
Dog freindly(not in food areas)
Beer Garden and large car park.
