You can probably guess where the Railway is situated in Parbold. It's actually right next to the level crossing. Of the 4 pubs in Parbold, it was my favourite, mainly because it was the least pretentious. It was a simple, no frills locals' boozer with a friendly landlord and locals who crack pretty poor jokes - "What's the darkest ale you have" - cue the retort "Guinness". It was of course true. But it's not helpful! The "real" ale selection was Tetleys Cask, Thwaites Wainwright & Lancaster Bomber, Black Edge Ginger & Martland Mill Clogmaker. Handy for..... you guessed it..... Parbold station.

A traditional, friendly local with 5 well kept cask ales and conveniently close to the station. Worth a visit.

The Railway is a lovely; good; old fashioned 'local'... in the very best sense of the term. Not many of them left; sadly! Good beer kept in an excellent, clean cellar. The staff are wonderfully warm and helpful (with one notable exception, but happy to forgive him and buy him a razor for Christmas!). Clientelle are largely locals or visiting workers. Lovely atmosphere and very welcoming. Facilities (eg Sports TV; pool tables etc) are great. Happy 'atmosphere' enhanced by very welcoming staff and typical, friendly customers. And dogs welcome!
Only recently moved to the village; but have no hesitation in recommending the pub and would like to wish the retiring licencee (Anne Brew!) all the best for the future. If visiting Parbold; then don't miss the Railway....
a 'proper' pub!

Former Burtonwood pub that, as you would expect, is next to the station.
It's mostly opened out and generally appeals to the younger generation, with two pool tables and sky sports. However, an area towards the front of the pub retains two snug-like rooms that are filled with railwayana- maps, old station signs, and pictures and are quite traditional and pleasant.
The Burtonwood estate having passed into Marstons' hands, the beers available are Banks', Pedigree and Jennings Cumberland- not exactly inspiring but kept well enough.
Apart from the front rooms, which I like there's little reason to visit here as it's a standard circuit pub- certainly nothing special but there are much worse.

Seems to have a resident kn*bhead - look out for the big guy with the shaved head and Rugby shirt who thinks that he's the life and soul of the pub and side-splittingly funny, but isn't....

Still a good pub worth going in as long as you can control the natural and understandable urge to plant him one.
