A decent place once inside in a pleasant corner of the town.
I liked the layout, it had a decent scattering of clientele in and our drinks were fine.
However the whole experience was marred by some somewhat overpower French café style music on repeat all the time, it would have been a very good visit if this was not on and some decent quieter music was played instead.

Maybe another visit is needed.

After a wander around town we arrived at this lovely looking pub on the edge of Market Square in the centre of town.

The exterior is extensively tiled with an area given over to original Star Ales Plymouth Breweries tiles on the outside.

2 hand pumps offering St Austell Tribute and Otter Ale. My pint of Otter was decent. All drinks served in plastic during Regatta week which was when I visited.

The service was a but crap with the young lad bordering on rude, he just didn't seem interested in serving me

Lots and lots of naval memorabilia including flags, oars, plaques and pictures adorned the walls.

1 bar but 2 different areas, the front bar area is a pub with the back room up a step being more for diners.

Fairly busy with a mix of locals and tourists. The Dolphin is nice pub with a stunning exterior even if the barman was slightly rude.

Lovely beer, nice food (and lots of it!)
Visited twice in 1 week, and enjoyed a pint of Tribute on both occaisions. Had the "Mr Fritto" basket on the first occaision, and the Mussels on the second.
Interesting (if that's the word) decor, and friendly service!

Contemporary design made it souless and uncomfortable. Served me a frozen pizza which I returned and got refunded on, and my wifes chicken curry was bland. Avoid.

Well I don't know what it was like before, as this was my first visit to Dartmouth, but I was really pleased I chose it for my only couple of pints in the town.
Ale in excellent condition. I had a Bridgetown summat or other, and it was lovely.
I've read the other reviews and can safely say that the service does not resemble some of the other comments so I think it must have dramatically improved lately.
Didn't eat there, but the menu looked good.
