user reviews of the Fox and Hounds Hotel, Eggesford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

St Austell Tribute and Trelawny on the pumps, when we called in. Both in fine condition and served well. However, as a typical hotel bar, very comfortable, but not a lot of atmosphere. But, you can take your dog in. They have a large water bowl at the reception end of the bar.
The food is a bit on the designer side - Not much of it, quite pricey but very pretty. If you stay at the hotel, the breakfasts are very good indeed.
If in the area, I would recommend you call in. We will.

My friend and i popped in here for a few ales after a walk around Eggesford forest. The ales were very good would have stayed for longer but we had to catch our train.

8/10

great staff, but kept very busy as runing bar, waitressing and covering reception. Several local ales which seemed well kept and tasted great! Excellent food, but slightly pricey!

Fantastic beer, food & service. What more does a man need?

This is a large country hotel just a few hundred yards from Eggesford Station (on the Exeter to Barnstaple line). When I visited it there were 3 real ales on - the delectable O'Hanlon's Firefly, Royal Oak and Bombardier. Plus, for the cider fans, the excellent Sam's medium on draught (the nearest thing to the old Inch's cider you're likely to get).

There are some nice forest walks nearby so it's a handy place for some refreshment before going home, and the hotel has access to the River Taw if you want a riverside stroll. They do fishing packages if you want to fish for trout, salmon etc as well.

The bar is very plush and comfortable, and the beer that I tried was well kept.
