| A nicely presented pub and I am pleased it started a trend for more up-market venues in the town. The beer variety is OK and is reasonable quality and people should not mind paying a bit more for their drinks in a nicer venue. If you want cheap drinks sit with the winos in the crown. Gets very busy on fri/sat nights and can be a pain getting a drink due to often only having two staff behind the bar. The toilets are also ver small and there is no disabled toilet. | Probably the best bar in town. Good selection of well priced drinks, including a good selection not sold elsewhere in town. Excellent atmosphere, good decor, friendly bar staff. A higher class of establishment than usual in Matlock and free from the usual pikeys! With the Monk Cellar now being open, Matlock finally has two good places to frequent at the weekend. | For years Matlock had got along with a dozen or so good pubs, a couple of crap-but busy-at-weekend pubs with late licences and two truly awful nightclubs. This led to a gap in the 'charge �3 for a pint to those mugs pretentious enough to pay it' market. Last year, gap filled by Rendezvous. Matlock needed this like a hole in the head.
