please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Great beer garden with a view and loads of animals to look at.

Inside is very dated though and felt more like a café than a pub.

Also very expensive and I mean expensive, won't bother again.

5/10 mainly for the garden.

Large rambling pub on an Exmoor crossroads at Blackmore Gate. As the name suggests it was once a Station House on the Barnstaple to Lynmouth railway and it still keeps a railway theme with a carvery set out like a train carriage (but wider, if you get my meaning!) and lots of great old photos of steam trains, stations and viaducts along the old route.
Decent real ale - the Exmoor was good - and cider, and the food looked good although we didn't eat so can't comment. Staff were friendly too. Seemed to have a nice mix between locals and tourists.
Worth a visit.

Barman was very nice and accomodating but the food was not good..in 20 years of cheffing i have never seen a medium rump steak burnt to a crisp like i had..the steak knife would not even break the crispy surface..on a brighter note the pate was nice.shame because it was valentines and not that busy.
wouldnt go again

Largely agree with previous comment except that over the last year the quality of the food has gone down hill - all a bit like any average town pub. I kinda expect something better in the country. (The steam railway, 'Lynton & Barnstaple', is well worh a visit - take road towards Lynton.)

'COACHES WELCOME' AND 'CARVERY' ARE SIGNS ON PUBS WHICH CAUSE ME A LITTLE UNEASE. VISIONS OF HORDES OF BLUE RINSERS DRINKING ORANGE JUICE AND LEMONADE OR CAREWORN PARENTS FEEDING JASON AND SASKIA WITH CHICKEN NUGGETS. WELL IT MIGHT BE LIKE THAT AT THE WEEKEND BUT NOT WHEN I WAS THERE. A LARGE AIRY BAR AND ADJOINING CARVERY WITH PANELLING, OLD FARM IMPLEMENTS AND RAILWAY PRINTS (STEAM RAILWAY JUST DOWN THE ROAD). AS YOU MIGHT EXPECT THE BEERS ARE EITHER EUROFIZ OR LCD (SEE MY PROFILE) BUT THERE ARE TWO REAL ALES AVAILABLE. QUALITY OF FOOD VERY GOOD WITH EVERYTHING PREPARED ON THE PREMISES WHICH MUST BE HELL FOR THE STAFF WHEN THE COACHES HIT TOWN. BEST TO VISIT WHEN ITS QUIET. STAFF FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT.
