I died and went to heaven! And there I was served the TheStocksInn Steak and Ale Piecheck out this friendly Wimborne Pub and its friendly Dorset folks. Been there several times, easily Wimbornes best. Incredibly good hearty food, excellent beers and wines. What more could one ask. Im having that Steak and Ale pie with me when they do eventually lay me to rest. Dave.

visited the Stocks on Saturday 30 April 2011 for lunch with my husband, son and his wife. We all had very dissapointing meals, the meat pie for very dry and re-heated in the oven. The cajun chicken felt that it was pre-cooked and then reheated again very dry and tasteless. Overall I would rate the food 3 out of 10, and would not return as there are many other good pubs in dorset, and in my opinion this pub is over rated,

I have eaten at this pub many times over the past decade and I have seen it improve beyond recognition in the last 18months. The food is excellent, well prepared and presented. The portions are more than adequate for even the largest appetite.
Last night we dropped in because we were passing, My son in law had decided he wanted to take photographs of the stars, that is another story.
We arrived at the same time as a party of 50 were rolling up for what looked like a Christmas party.
Despite the huge commitment that 50 people imposed the staff still managed to fit us in, making sure our drinks were topped up as required. The food arrived in a timely fashion and the young servers were efficient and friendly.
They knew their job and they knew the menu.
It was a very pleasant experience and one that I will repeat as often as possible

This pub has gone down hill over the past 12 months or so. We have always tried to support local business, but I fear we have visited the Stocks for the last time. Our last visit, we were served our food by a waitress who not only took our order wrong, delivered the wrong food and actually overcharged us. Onto the food, well, my wife ate the Lemon Sole, which had not been cleaned properly and I could not believe it when the chef visited our table and argued that he had worked in a fish restaurant and flatfish often have their innards left in them. We paid and only afterwards we checked our bill and found that we had been overcharged.
From a drinks perspective, my wife ordered a white wine which was warm, although the Guinness that I had was really nice. Our 9 year old asked for Lemonade with no ice and the drink duly arrived full of ice.
I fear that this once popular pub will go the same way as the Barley Mow and the Rising SUn, both now closed. It was empty the last time we visited (22nd December 2009) and it was no better when I popped in tonight, probably for the last time

Just returned very disappointed from a dinner here, a pub that has served us so well over the past few years. What went wrong tonight then? On every previous visit the food has been outstanding, the beer excellent and the service courteous and attentive. No problems with the service or the beer tonight, but the food was diabolical. Crab cakes that looked like they came from an Iceland freezer bag, a burger that was simply a pile of fried minced beef - no seasoning, no flavour, no shape. YUK! And the fish crumble had as much flavour as an insole and a similar texture. Was it the chef's night off? Come on Stocks, not good enough!
