Now a Tesco Express! valeyard - 18 May 2014 01:38 |
Another big old Yeovil boozer gone. I am suprised at this one going as it looks as though it could cater for all groups of people and is the only pub at this end of town. Also with parking and on a main road. Pubs are doomed! montie49 - 9 Nov 2012 18:50 |
Unfortunately now closed and sporting the inevitable metal shutters. At one time a good pub, but not in recent years, with customers largely drawn from the rough estate behind. Another one bites the dust! beerpilgrim - 8 Nov 2012 22:38 |
Made a quick visit one afternoon this week. Firstly - and loads of Brownie points - it is open all day. Secondly, there were none of the normal regulars in, knuckle-draggers or otherwise - I was the only customer. I received a warm welcome from the landlady and I plumped for a pint of Theakston's XB (3.10), which was very good. In fact I had little option as the other two pumps weren't being used. The pub, split into three main bar areas, is quite light, airy and pleasant these days with wooden furniture throughout . As I sat in the main central bar area I couldn't help notice the large TV screen - playing sport? no, Jeremy Kyle! (not really a surprise there then!). The menu, chalked above the bar, looked extensive and quite reasonably priced. Then I began reading it in detail and noticed that 10 dishes offered came with chips while the remaining four came with mash. None of your haute cuisine stuff here then! All in all a great improvement since my last visit a couple of years ago. Unfortunately it still needs a bit of work - another ale or two and a much more adventurous menu for a start. Just below average, but let's hope it picks up. BobOs - 16 Jul 2011 08:46 |
New people have freshened up the pub and have re-introduced real ale. Butcombe at present but possible others in future. Good selection of sports shown on tv's or large screen. Impy - 31 Aug 2010 15:09 |
