With time for a few bonus pubs, I trotted off to this establishment next to St Cuthbert's Church. The congregation in the Globe didn't seem to be too religious however, with a proliferation of swear words. I was greeted by the offer of a shower from the leak in the roof. But, the staff were friendly and in truth, the pub was nice inside, apart from the leak and the inebriated clientele. The ale range was better than most pubs - Cheddar Ales Gorge Best, Box Steam Story Box & Blindman's Golden Spring. There was also a good cider selection - Wilkin's Dry & Sweet, Harry's Scrummage, Dirty Harry's Mango & Lime Cider & Raspberry & Blackcurrant Cider & Taunton Cider Company First Press Original. With free Sunday night entertainment, what's not to like?

One word to sum this place up......BLAND! It just doesn't seem to have any atmosphere. I tried a local cider, it was good and the service was friendly. Nice enough, just lacking that little bt.

I hadn't been here since before the re-fit, but it has improved very much. A very friendly, local place, a bit off the beaten track but worth hunting out. The beers are mostly Cheddar Valley Brewery and are well-kept. The lunchtime food was very good indeed, and home-made (rather than microwaved) as far as I could see. Recommended. 7/10

One of the best pubs in Wells.. Staff are friendly and considerate.

The beer seems to be well kept, and the space represents a good refurb. Recommended.

Since my previous review this has been refurbished and now sports a slightly more contemporary atmosphere, although still manages to retain much of it’s charm. The front bar has old flagstones towards the front, with some wood strip flooring behind. On the walls there is some khaki green wood panelling lower down with cream plasterwork above, and there was a birck fire-place off to one side.

Beers this time were Tribute, Cheddar’s Potholer and Butcombe. Ciders were Thatcher’s Gold, Thatcher’s Heritage and Symonds Founder’s Reserve.
