One word to start......EXPENSIVE!! £5.00 for a pint of Estrella, robbery. Yes the pub is well presented and yes 'it's a nice place to be'. But blatantly ripping off customers is a bit wrong. Will I visit again? Probably. Will I be having a pint? Certainly not!!! I'll stick to a quick half and probably be ripped off again.

The only Greene King pub I tried yesterday. But this is not your ordinary Greene King establishment. It appears to be more of a restaurant populated by the local middle/upper classes, who are more likely to be cracking open bottles of wine than sampling the poor range of Greene King ales - St Edmunds & Morland Original. The interior is nice enough with seating around a central bar. But the clientele seemed a bit too snobbish for my liking. But this seemed to be a problem throughout Winchester, with the exception of perhaps the Black Boy and the Eclipse. Disappointing.

Fundamentally serves the posh end of town - which in winchester you might think is the whole town, but its really the knitted fashion jumper, fancy welly brigade who like a wall of wine aka All-Bar-One, but in more refined environs.

an e.g: Sort of place you get really fancy nuts in bowls - now i am all for upgrading from KP/sky TV joints, but a good joint wouldnt go this wanky it would just serve better branded nuts

Staff are friendly enough but lacking conversational skills/interest.

I find the place therefore a little pretentious and trying - everyone is so pleasant there is little in the way of topical pub banter. Beer's are Greene King so boring selection and beware if you turnup looking poor.

One of my favourite pubs in the city. Well kept beer, fine wines and good food. Seating arrangements are excellent considering the size of the pub. Lounging in the old cinema seats in particular is a treat, especially at night when the candles are lit. You can lean back, slowly supping your (albeit expensive) pint of Blue Moon and drink in the atmosphere of this wonderful wee pub. Highly recommended.

Went in here with slight trepidation, having lived here many years ago and not been in for over 20 years. Needn't have worried. Very friendly staff, excellent range of wine (incl. a very good Marlborough Sauvignon) and delightful ambience. My friend had food, which he said was very good (and he is not given to hyperbole). A most enjoyable experience, and I will definitely be back.
