user reviews of the Royal Oak, Bere Regis

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Visited late on a Friday afternoon following an unfortunate visit to the Drax up the road. The only bar open was the converted skittle alley. One other customer, the bloke behind the jump was very friendly. Had a pint of London Pride, raised by electric pump in the guise of a hand pull. Must say though that the beer was in good condition, although this would not have been my choice if a pale ale had been available. Outside courtyard very clean and tidy. A short but overall pleasant visit.

Very friendly and helpful landlord. Good beer. Haven't sampled the food yet.

Think the restaurant part was being refurbed when we visited, hence only a small bar open. Full of characters, including a middle-aged guy at the bar pronouncing in a broad Dorset dialect "the trouble with you English". Also, every girl in the bar appeared to be pregnant, suggesting there is little else to do in the village!

I stayed here for 3 nights last summer and overall it was a very pleasent expeiance. This pub has a pool table, juke box, skittle alley and a seperate restaurant and the atmoshere was out of this world.
The only way i can describe it is like the queen vic in eastenders. All the people of the village know each other and they know everyone else's buisness.
They have a good selection of beers at reasonable prices.I got to know the landlord and landlady while i was there and they are great people. They put on a lot of discos for the younger people in the village so they have something to do on a friday and saturday night. The only downfall was the landlords daughter who was a trouble maker the whole time i was there.
I have heard the pub has changed management now so i hope it hasnt gone downhill.
