user reviews of the Boot and Shoe Hotel, Scotforth

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Used to be a charming old pub, though I accept it needed a refurb. Sadly, Thwaites have done that thing where they strip the pub of any charm at all. Feels like a chain pub too, slick and sterile and everything branded. On a positive note, had a reasonable pint of some Thwaites pale ale at £3.

Visited yesterday, good range of ales - perhaps too many for winter but both I tried good, friendly barman gave lots of information on local pubs so a good pub crawl which ended in the Borough in town centre - brilliant finish.

I really like the inside of this place, lots of cosy nooks and crannies with plenty of places for a private drink away from the hubbub.

Fair range of beer on, but the quality varies too much and they're quite often too cold for my palate outside the summer months. Sort that out and you've got a tidy community boozer well worth a visit.

Note for Southern visitors - Booths supermarket is over the road, a mecca of fine local bottled ale at cheap prices. Fill your boots there, I always make sure I do!!

Another on my trip round scotforth Friendly at first but then a couple of regulars spoilt the atmophere (one growling paul barratt )locals seemed used to it but language not to everyones cup of tea. Landlord will need to address this problem Beer and shorts good measures and genuine seating okay Loos (can only comment on ladies) okay but could be improved At night the atmosphere alot better people nicer friendlier and good company Food is very nice and not expensive The pub will be visited again but only on an evening crawl the men in day quite off putting
