300 year old pub - multiple Camra award winning and in the GBG 2019. Two roomed - dog friendly bar and carpetted dining room/lounge - joined by a single long bar spanning both rooms. Of course, this means the staff are never at the correct side :-) Chalk board with meaningful information of the 5 real ales on.... Arkells, Green King giving way to more palatable Fullers, Hobsons and JW Lees. Beer in great condition but the £7.95 Sunday Lunch was a real bargain. Simple but getting everything right. Welcoming, convivial pub that was busy last night in the lounge bar with many locals eating the (admittedly ordinary looking) pub grub. The public bar, however, was almost empty. I don't know anything about pub architecture but the interior looks vaguely 1940s to me with a couple of glazed serving hatches and a period front door. Cask Marque and GBG2015 listed, the Mordue Killswitch 51 was in good condition and a new beer to me (which is always a good thing). Robinsons Trooper and Greene King's IPA and Abbot Ale were also on sale. Would certainly give it another try if in the area. paul_d102 - 4 Oct 2014 09:25 |
Off the beaten track and all the better for it. Fantastic food at a good price in a nice atmosphere. Bar staff could not be friendlier. Well worth a visit and far nicer than many pubs in the area that make a real effort to attract the tourist. Well done. miffy4boys - 21 Jul 2010 19:38 |
A good locals pub, friendly to visitors, two main indoor areas - a good basic bar and a homely lounge area, food was good with a changing specials board, good pint of Everards Tiger, friendly bar staff. About a miles walk from the Harvington Lock / dry dock on the river Avon bessdog - 21 Jun 2010 18:30 |
Nice setting but...the worst choice of drinks I've ever seen in any pub anywhere. Ivan_Dobski - 8 Aug 2009 20:02 |
