The Blackbird was our first stop on Sunday afternoon in the Newbury area. It was probably the best of the 5 pubs we went to. Locals, bar staff and the landlord were welcoming. There's a main bar area and a separate, smaller dining area off to the side. There were 3 handpulls with 2 ales on - West Berkshire Good Old Boy & Indigenous Nosey Parker. I had the Nosey Parker, which was good. A selection of board games are available. We were asked if we'd been to the nearby Watermill Theatre. But sadly we're not that cultured!

It is now open!!! I used to pop in roughly once a week for a couple of pints. It was closed for a few months but now has a new landlord, Ben, a nice chap. Ales today were West Berks (always good) and a guest, which was perfect! I do love good ale! Food has just been set up, so as yet unsampled, but will try with my family this weekend.

Visited yesterday and it was a worthwhile experience. Small but good selection of well-kept beer. Food very acceptable and service very quick. Would visit again if I was in the area. Just a shame it is not open all day.
