The pub is an attractive looking place both inside and out.
However that is as good as it gets.
Yes there did seem to pressure to order food even though we were only having a pint. The real ales were very poor as was my mrs's pint of Fosters.
Expensive too, I've never been that keen on Hall and Woodhouse.

We won't hurry back.

Called in here on Sunday with friends from Scotland. Usual Badger beer on. Arrived about 14.00, ordered food about 14.30. Starters arrived quick enough but the 'messy garlic bread' was not at all messy and consisted of two small pieces of bread, not worth the money. We then waited for the main course....and waited...I went to see how long it would be....and we waited and waited..after about a hour we cancelled our order and left. The pub was not busy, no excuse for this appalling service.

Fortunately we dined here - those that just popped in for a quick pint while we were there didn't appear to have a particularly good welcome. Definitely likes to think of itself as an haute cuisine establishment but the food was nothing special and the menu was somewhat ordinary despite all the hype. The bar staff all seemed to be rushing around like headless chickens rather than serve me a pint on arrival. All in all it was OK but we're not going to rush back.

Had a major refurb, now the tired old country local has been "Badgered" by the Hall and Woodhouse group. Had a lot of money thrown at it and Hatchpaines Construction Co have done a good job, with lots of cosy nooks; although the bar area is far too bloody bright and you need a pair of sunglasses to order a pint. However the ale was excellent, I was on the Fursty Ferret which was well kept. The service excellent and the food was outstanding. Will be back there again definitely.
