im not sure what to give this pub as a rating.

it is a real honest no frills pub, with good service, and the building has tons of history and charachter, which i would give probably a 7 or 8 for.

but... im tempted to score it much lower ....this pub has commited the biggest crime any pub can commit by having large tv's showing actual sh*t saturday night tv, volume up so loud, so that even though you hate ant and dec, you cant help watching. theres no better way to kill an atmosphere and dry up conversation than by having over powering tv's on in a pub.

but as i say, its a stunning building with tons of history, and if thats important (as it is to me), then its worth a visit.

I stayed there for a few nights, half the time I did not get any breakfast even though promised the nights before. The room was just about acceptable, but certainly not worth the money. Complaints to the manager didn't change anything.
I guess, the right place for a beer, but not more.

Hello readers,

ANTHONY your a hyprocryte if your writting a book it would be one confusing read! your comments contradict and no subtance in what you write in your review. You mentioned it provides good service and good BB then you go on about calling people nut-cases when clearly you are one yourself by sitting in the pub - where people are at their most ease and JUDGE THEM...because you cant see the funny side to life!!!

this pub is genuine traditional pub and freindly service provided to the locals and visitors..i enjoy my evenings there and yes its not the best place in the world but then name me a perfect place you been too that has provided everything you wanted?!!

bit like life.......ITS WHAT YOU MAKE IT!

on a last note - like (bannasforbeers) says its good old place for few pints with the boys!

A good place for a few pints with mates, but not the best place to take a date. Pool table in the garden.

Not a nice place.

Disgustingly smoky and a pretty paltry selection of ales on offer.
