Most of the comments are out of date. This in now part of the Barfly chain. It no longer operates as a pub as such- not open during the daytime and never food available. With little in the way of alternative pay on entry music venues in central York it continues to put on a wide range of music, although rather more of new indie bands than the it used to have - it has featured many main line acts from the 1960s and 70s when these were not the headlining acts some have now become! Us grey rockers spending more and more. Nostalgia is not what it was at Fibbers! I miss the most chilling Sunday lunchtimes, sizzling Fajitas and some superb bands, collecting some petrol money on their way through! But it still has atmosphere and is friendly. If you see a band listed that you would like to see, then go for it - believe me you will be suprised how many others will do the same!

If it's live music you want, then here is the place for most peoples tastes. As a bar it's an odd one, built into the base of a 60's office block. Always hot and sweaty inside at night, the beer is usually no great shakes either. Was much better many years ago as "Fazers" but now I'm showing my age and being nostalgic !

I like this place. Though I suppose it's one of those places that needs to grow on you. It becomes better as you get to know people there. Food is nice and cheap in the day! Some of the bands leave a lot to be said as there is a lot of screamy stuff but some people like that I suppose! All in all it's pretty decent. Nowhere near as rough as Cert 18!

Fibbers is a shadow of its former self - I can remember, not so long ago, that there were actually decent bands there (I remember seeing Ozric Tentacles just after I moved to York - awesome!). Claims to be York's leading music venue are well wide of the mark too.

If you want live music, then head to either Certificate 18 on Gillygate (for the metal/goth crowd) or the Junction on Leeman Road. Or Leeds. If you want decent beer, just about anywhere else in York will do.

The Owner here thinks he is running the Machester G Mex, he is really up his own pumper. Thinks it is a good venue because Stereophonics played there in 1992 to 6 people and a sheep. If you want good live music, avoid here and go to Leeds. Overpriced, Over Egotistical, Overrated
