yes to be fair this pub has been rubbish in the past with lots of new owners not staying long but the new owners are really good and Helen and her staff and brother need a pat on the back for turning it around !
well done Helen and keep up the good work especially for the 7/8 sept for SF reunion

We visited for lunch on a busy sunday in May, the cider was like vinegar, the ale without any head or effervessence and the cola had too much soda in the mix. We tried changing the cider which was undrinkable, the landlord tried it and after wincing said there was nothing wrong with it, "nobody else has complained". After much fuss it was changed, but this is not an attitude we expect. As a local accomodation provider we are no longer recommending this pub to our guests.

These reviews are all out dated! Stayed there just before New Years 2010. Apparently the pub changed hands 5 months prior. It's now run by a very friendly guy named David. Great food (really interesting menu), Ale (Wye Valley) and Accommodation (cheap, cosy and clean + free giant breakfast).

I stayed at the pub for two nights in late July 2009. I was shocked at the poor accommodation. The carpet had not been swept properly. There were no tea or coffee making facilities or any welcome tray of any sort. There wasn't even soap or shower gel. A 3 day old paper had been left in the room. There was mould in the shower and the toilet roll holder kept falling off the wall. The only OK thing about the room were that the towels were clean and the bed comfortable. The pub itseldf was a dreary place. No comfy chairs. Horrible piped music played all the time. The beer was very ordinary. Though generous in portions, the food was dead average, though they had not over-cooked the vegetables, which is something. I would not go back there for anything. Places like this give Wales a bad name.

Like some previous people we stayed here a couple of years ago when the original owners had it and it was a lovely place to be warm friendly and somewhere you would want to go back to . So we did in in August and found the new owners to be arrogant unwilling to acommodate breakfast at 7 am and downright rude when approached, the young women that apparantly runs the pub needs to take on board that the pub is her lively hood. We would never return here unfortunately.
