user reviews of Hollybrook Tavern, Littleover

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A large yet quiet and comfortable pub. Visited here some time back but couldn't find the pub listed on BITE to leave a review. Clearly it was here all along and I must have been having a special moment and missed it.

This pub has a good selection of real ales to choose from, think I counted 6 hand pumps, and on my latest visit went for a pint of Rivet Catcher by Jarrow Brewery. A pale beer, quite hoppy and 4.0% which set me back £3.30 for the pint. Very pleasant and refreshing, and pleasant quiet surroundings to enjoy my pint in during a weekday lunch time.

The beer is ever changing here - I had the rare opportunity to have an Okells beer from the Isle of Man which was excellent.

Whilst the quality of the beer varies - the choice is normally 3-4 different ones.

The food has been either very good or extremely bad when I've eaten here with the latter being true a few weeks ago. Typical chain pub but it is smart.

Often rammed on a Friday and Saturday night.

A landlord who regularly runs out of his flagship beer (Bass), serves it in dirty glasses, insults customers when they ask for end-of-barrel dregs to be replaced and attempts to manipulate a quiz to last to midnight isn't my idea of an ideal host. As an ex-regular I've never felt welcomed and now I wouldn't set foot in the place again.

TO BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS - LOOK FOR A FRIENDLY PUB INSTEAD WHERE BEER IS KEPT PROPERLY AND ALWAYS AVAILABLE.
