I visited this pub tonight (05/05/2012) and was met with a very warm and friendly landlord and landlady. The surroundings were very spacious and there was a great real fire . I also had a lovely meal and will definately be visiting again soon. There is a large beer garden and i know my children will enjoy going there in the summer. I wish the new landlord and landlady every sucess.

I visited this pub a week ago on my first trip to Derby. We arrived to find the place rather empty due to the snow but were greeted by the landlady and grateful for a warm spot in front of the fire. We ended up staying a good few hours chatting away to the landlady and enjoyed the friendly, laid back atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced, there is a pool table, darts, some games to play and plenty of space so you are not cramped. There was no food served whilst we were there due to a supply issue.

My personal opinion would be that if you are looking for an upmarket gastro pub then this is not for you. But for a friendly local that allows dogs, with a few decent beers on tap, where you can sit comfortably then I'd definitely say give it a try. And I much preferred it to the square and compass a few yards down the road!

We felt instantly welcomed by the new land lady who cound not do enough for us. The pub is very atmospheric and warm with facilities for all ages, in fact we're looking forward to taking our little one's on a sunny day! We wanted to stay longer for their bank holiday plans. The food was excellent and well priced and they also offered a good variety of drinks. All in all a great country pub which made our weekend away all the more special. Looking forward to going again soon.

I visited here recently and the food and service were both excellent.
The staff could not do enough to make you feel welcome, to the extent that they were prepared to cook my partner something that was not even on the menu which I know very few establishments would be willing to do.

I would like to add that you do not have to be an intelligent individual to comment on what constitutes good service and food.

Perhaps the staff were not willing to welcome the ignorance and arrogance clearly displayed towards others on here by some people!!

Definately worth a visit and I hope you enjoy it!

the negative reviews were unfortunately right, and they did nothing about it.
Now sadly bankrupt and rubbish. Hopefully Greene King will do something with the place soon. Shame.
