Like I found on my last visit, the Clerics Cure was decent enough on Saturday night without being spectacular. Town Crier was also still on sale as were Wye Valley HPA and Black Sheep Bitter. Much busier this time around.

My last visit here was one Christmas Eve (last year?) when I forgot to review it (or couldn't remember how). Saturday's experience was much more sedate when we had the large upstairs room to ourselves for a family get-together and enjoyed good food and drink. Three Tuns Clerics Cure and Hobsons Town Crier were the 2 ales I tried of the 4 on offer - both were good but no better than that. Pretty quiet when we left around 9pm. A pub still worth visiting though.

This place used to be run down, and I believe was closed for a time, but has been done up and is now thriving. There are two rooms at the front, and one on the right at the rear opposite the bar. All feature a good mixture of assorted sizes of tables, and the one on the left has a real fire (when appropriate). The room at the back is rather dingy, but maybe this is just in contrast to the bar which is brightly lit.

The cask ale range is not very exciting. There are 3 handpumps serving Ludlow Gold, Black Sheep and Three Tuns Clerics Cure. I tried the latter and it was OK. The focus of the drinks range can be judged by the number of keg fonts on the bar, and the amount of space behind it devoted to describing the wine list.

The place is also pretty much focused on food. Having already eaten, I didn’t do any more than take a brief look at the menu. It seemed to be pretty expensive, and not wildly exciting. The most unusual dish I noticed was chicken kiev (something of a Ludlow speciality it appears).

6/10 – OK, but not the sort of place I really go for.

Shut for a while but now (about a year ago apparently) but now reopen. Popped in for a quick one and initial impressions were great. Totally restored without losing its essential character, Clean, tidy, organised. Good service, excellent Gent's Loo, quirky decoration. Don't know who owns it but it didn't feel like a managed house. Impressed.

The licence has been suspended by the police. Not entirely surprised. Hopefully the beginning of changes for the good for this place.
