A Free house.

It is some time since the last review and since then that ' family brewer supporting local communities'......St Austell Brewery...... has sold the pub, in its continued policy of selling off small village pubs......not too sure which community it is 'supporting'!

A one bar pub with the bar to one side and seating around an open fire. The other side seems to be laid to tables and serves as more of an eating area. At time of visit had two beers on tap, one of which, Skinners Betty Stoggs, was in good condition. A few locals at the bar who seemed friendly enough coupled with a friendly welcome from the barmaid.

Seemed to me to be a bit uncared for and in need of a bit of TLC, surprising really given that it is now a free house.

Country pub situated in a village with a large viaduct towering above it. Opening times appear limited. But we arrived on a Sunday lunchtime to find it just opening. 4 other elderly customers were present alongside the landlord, who appears to be originally from Coventry and a big Coventry City and Oasis fan, judging by the memorabilia on the walls. The landlady was pottering about upstairs, but it seemed she was about to come through the ceiling, given the noise of footsteps! Being a St Austell pub, Tribute, Trelawny & HSD were all available. Healeys Cornish Rattler was the keg cider. Nice enough place.

We visited this pub on a recent holiday in Cornwall. The current owners have been there a few months. It is a lovely traditional Cornish Inn. The ownersare very friendly and offer excellent customer service. We liked it in there so much that we ended having 4 meals there. The food is home cooked and delicious. Portions sizes were good and the prices represented good value for money. Our favourites were the homemade steak and ale pie and the lemon and herb chicken. Would definately recommend a visit and we will return when we are back in the area again. I would advise you book though as there are not many tables.

The reviews on this pub are quite old, so as I was browsing pubs in Hayle I really think I should put the record straight. We have been using this place rugularly now for meals for about 12 months, and I would say that 98% of the time they have the food absolutely spot on. The one time one of our party had a duff meal, they gave him another meal and didnt charge anything for it or the first one. Food is out of this worls - I can especially recomend the Angarrack Chicken in Stilton sauce or the steak pie. You cannot get better than this anywhere else in Hayle or surrounding areas - Ive tried them all!

Been to this pub on several occasions and always had a really nice meal and great chat with the friendly landlords. Food is traditional, but nicely cooked and the locally caught trout was lovely. Great fish and chips too! The ale is good and reasonably priced.
