17th and 18th century former coaching inn which dominates the town centre. Just as well that it's an attractive building. Numerous rooms/seating areas off the main "hall" - we chose a window seat overlooking Sheepgate which was a much quieter part of the pub (for 5 minutes anyway). Purple Moose Dark Side of the Moose, Ruddles Best, Abbot Ale, Beartown Atlas, Doom Bar and Prescott Season's Best were the ales that I saw on sale last Thursday priced at between £1.89 and £2.29. I had to return my pint of Atlas as it never cleared properly and, whilst the bar manager alluded to it being fine, it was changed for a pint of good Season's Best without quibbling. Service was quick throughout our visit so nothing to dislike about this place. paul_d102 - 29 Jul 2019 19:09 |
Simply couldn't cope this weekend. Customers had to queue to order food - and the overworked staff became rather twitchy! A fine establishment physically, and is really the centrepiece of the town. tradervic - 26 May 2018 13:34 |
Not your usual 'Spoons layout. Lots of small rooms each side of a central walkway. Can be difficult to spot a vacant table. Looked to have twelve handpumps at the bar, some were doubled-up with their standard beers. Five pumps had the annoyingly 'Available Soon' clips on them, which only left two genuine guest ales. Although very busy lunchtime, service was quick for both drinks and food. fugglehops - 6 Oct 2015 22:15 |
For HOTELRIES read HOSTELRIES in my review. Terrible typos annoy me no end! dougdeep - 19 Apr 2013 12:02 |
Spoons have done an excellent refurb on this lovely old hotel - one of their better hotelries in my opinion. I could while away most of the day in here! I just hope Spoons very keen pricing doesn't have too harmful an effect on the trade of other pubs in this lovely old town, though. It would be nice to think that Spoons and other pubs could all coexist with no problems. (Fingers crossed). dougdeep - 18 Apr 2013 16:34 |
