user reviews of the Old Dog Inn, Preston

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Old Dog has suffered over the past few years and is now in dire need of refurbishment. The place was almost empty when the wife and I arrived at a little before midnight, when most of the other local places were still rockin'. Strangely there were three 'security' men at the front door but they were in little danger of having to do any work. Inside the staff were friendly enough. The beer was of the same brand I had been drinking (modestly) all night but tasted rather different than the stuff I'd sampled in other establishments (but no bad after effects). Toilets were in an appalling state but staff not interested at all when we mentioned this. Have to say the music, a good mix of 70'and 80s rock plus contemporary charts, was the redeeming feature. This pub was once an essential stop on our route around town. i wouldgive it a miss from now on.

Good warm-up before Warehouse nightclub on fri/sat evenings as no dress code but busy, quiet and friendly during week.

An old-fashioned, slightly tatty pub, and good with it! The same man (presumably the landlord) is always behind the bar, usually on his own. There is a pool table and the pub is split into sections. Can seem slightly dodgy sometimes, but is a pretty friendly place and worth a visit if you are round Church Street.
