Re-opened at the beginning of 2011 and celebrated 26 years in the Good Beer Guide last year. paul_d102 - 31 Jan 2014 15:41 |
Hello everyone, This pub is now shut. There was a pile of envelopes that could bee senn behind the glass door. It amazed me that this place was allowed to stay open for so long - it was filthy! The sad thing is that if it had kept clean and spruced up, it would have remained the atmospheric 60's style student pub it once was. Another victim of bad management and the recesssion? Another one bites the dust! jimg jimg - 13 Jul 2009 14:10 |
This place is awful. It hasn't seen a paintbrush in decades. Nor has it troubled the hygiene industry much over the period. The toilets are a disgrace. If you dedide to ignore my advice and venture down the steps for a drink, here's a tip. Either stand, or grab one of the stools that has had its upholstery stripped off. It may be uncomfortable, but it will avoid the smell of Aikmans sticking to your clothing. BarryH - 8 Jun 2009 10:27 |
This pub was unhygienic in the extreme, peeling wallpaper, sticky, filthy tables, soft furnishings full of holes and covered with stains, the staff were scruffy and for the most part extremely surly. They used pretty bad language, too. There was no handwash in the loos and a stink coming from the gents. The place was really, really dirty and i'd not advise anyone to go in here especially if you have young children or elderly people with you because, frankly, they'd probably catch something within the first five minutes of being inside. Why this place calls itself a wine bar i have no idea because the wine was absolutely disgusting, i'd be surprised if they even spend 60p per bottle of the stuff they buy in. Really disappointing experience all round ana_emily - 13 Feb 2009 22:57 |
If your idea of a fun night out is being surrounded by a bunch of angst-ridden, 6th year poets then this is the place for you. Abysmal service, tasteless food, all round grim decor and an inability to understand the importance of ice in a drink makes this bar a throw back to the 70's. Yes it does have a selection of good beers but that doesn't remove its obligation to have toilets that don't make you gag - Avoid at all costs! Humidor - 19 Jan 2007 01:26 |
