The Gardeners Arms has been nicknamed ‘The Murderers’ ever since Frank Miles bludgeoned his estranged wife Millie to death there with a brewer’s tool in 1895. Crikey.

Also known as the Murderer's, this historic (1696) building has various nooks, crannies and split levels to sit in. It also has a larger area at the back which hosts live music and we spent a couple of hours there on Saturday night listening to a local bluegrass band. London Pride, Doom Bar, Wolf's Edith Cavell and Woodfordes Wherry are the regular ales, also on sale were Burton Bridge's Burton Ale, Woodfordes Sundew, Borough Brewery's Full Blast, North Yorkshire Brewing's Dizzy Dick, Lacons Falcoln Ale, Winter's Geniuss and Grain's Blackwood Stout. Cider was from Farmer Jims. The beers I tried were all good so add in the history and this is a place worth visiting.

At last a Norwich pub with a bit of, er, life. An interestingly themed place, not at all ghoulish though I imagine they pull out all stops at Halloween. My diary says I had a pint of Rising Sun, no idea of its origin but I gave it a thumbs up so I guess it was drinkable. It cost 3.75, which was my dearest Norwich pint. Very enjoyable experience, good location, good pub.

Also known as the 'Murderers', this is an excellent real ale pub. We really enjoyed our pint of murderers beer. The choice of beers was good and the staff friendly. We didn't actually eat here because they had just stopped serving food (at 5pm), but other people seemed to finishing off (and enjoying) large plates of food.

Sat outside on a warm end-of April day with a pint of Beeston beer (very drinkable) and watched the world go by. It's very handy for the shops and the castle and makes for a great escape from both! Basically two pubs in one - so go and find out the history for yourself. They do food and coffee so that suited us all. Local beers apart from Doom Bar (why would you want a national brand Cornish beer in Norwich when there are so many good local breweries??) Anyway, this is well worth a visit.
