Judging by the identical postcode, this is now the Wig & Pen and while it sounds like it has improved a lot, such is the fierceness of the competition that it still doesn't really cut the mustard. Pie and chips was decent and service affable but both ales I tried were below par. There is a whiff of Green King about the place - IPA was on tap.

Now renamed the Fox & Quill according to a close source

Like Wetherspoons, only when i last went i couldn't go in because i was wearing trainers. No trainers? The Goose are going down the stupid dress code route like many naff nightclub chains, except they're a normal pub.

For a busy town centre pub this is a great place to eat in the day and have a drink in the evening, it has changed a remarkable amount over the last 2 years, the food has got infinitely better there is no longer the trouble you used to see there on a regular basis and the prices are still the nest in Northampton. As for the previous comments about being ID'd at both door and bar, I suspect that you would be one of the first people to complain if you suspected the pub was serving under-agers. With police campaigns constantly trying to catch out pub operators with test purchases from under age customers and close them down (as recently occurred with the nearby Wedgewood) can you really blame these operators for being overly cautious?

Cheap doubles keeps me going there although they always ID before entry and at the bar again. Too busy at weekends.
