The New Inn is no longer a Scream pub.In fact it has grown up,it is more of a local/student pub now.It has a very nice interior and a great beer garden with heaters and a outside tv.It has Sky Sports and ESPN .We popped in to watch the 1/4 final of The Rugby World Cup between England and France and the place was packed with locals and students. It was a great atmosphere and although England lost we had a great time.Definatly worth a visit if you have not been for a while. It has been totally transformed.

Another Scream pub, with the formula 'perfected' in other university towns being replicated to the letter. Lots of lager at prices that cause you to wince (even with one of their student yellow cards), bored staff, fried/microwaved food and a general plasticky feel to the place. However, it doesn't have any competition for about 400 metres in any direction (the nearest is the exquisite Victoria) and, for supposedly bright people, enough students appear suckered enough to make it their regular. Leave them to it.

Like the Hogshead, before the dawn of New Labour (I wonder if theres a connection here?) the New Inn was a friendly two roomed traditional pub comprising of a quiet lounge and a more raucous pool room. A makeover exploited the large student population, and its now a pub I feel too old to enter. Plenty of quiz machines, jukeboxes, and bandits to entertain the masses, and at least a Black Sheep handpump has been added to the bar now.

grim but not in an interesting way...full of student tossers who make the vast majority of decent, unobnoxious students look bad

There is no real ale(which is not good for me) and the drinks are not that cheap (without one of those discount cards). It's plastic and fake, even the bar staff looked bored.
