A good pub, good Governor/ Barman, decent Guinness.
Was in here Yesterday and the fella was telling me that they make loads on the B&B/Cafe side of things, seemed strange, but if this enables a good local like this to remain open, good. The pub certainly doesn't suffer because of it.

A traditional sort of pub, at the 'cheap and cheerful' end of the market (but none the worse for that, as it appears to be well run). No real ale unfortunately, so had to do with keg Whitbread Best (just like the old days...).

A proper pub! Back in the 'seventies "The German's" was my local (in the 'fifties and 'sixties my grandad even had his own chair at the bar - nobody else ever sat in it as he spent every hour of opening time in it!). Visited last week and the only thing that had really changed was the staff - but the new ones are just as friendly!

Brilliant place. AKA The German, as used to be run by one during the war. Reason looks empty from the front goes back to the olden days when one side of the pub was for working men with dirty boots, had bare floors and no airs and graces and the other was a bit more plush where chaps took their good ladies for the evening. Friendly atmosphere, reasonable food and good entertainment.

A nice local boozer for a quiet after work drink, friendly enough staff and a good breakfast in the morning. Considering, it was nearly a year ago Monkfish posted that message, I would urge him to make another visit, (not just walk past) and reconsider his comments.

I do agree with TheHorsesMouth about the barmaid though!!!!!!!

I'll agree about the barmaid, but next time Mr Monkfish is passing by,perhaps he should go inside with a few friends & help create a better atmosphere. I use the pub quite a lot & find that the staff are very friendly, as are the regulars. I don't consider myself as "gnarled looking", except maybe first thing in the morning. The pub has recently got a new manager who is working round the clock to make things run smoothly. It's a friendly local boozer, that could do with your support!

Mr Monkifsh gets it about right. Horrid although on a purely sexist point of view did have a very very attractive barmaid.

Every time I have ever been past this pub, it has been empty save for a couple of gnarled looking regulars. Not terrible but like outer space it has no atmosphere.

I was a bit put off as this pub had no real ales. Otherwise a pretty average place.

A fine pub indeed me heartys!, my old local, a fine broad based service they provide including overnight accommodation, and its luxury at that!, before they built the professional accommodation, i once fell asleep in the snooker room some how (hic!)?? and woke up at 8a.m xmas day to an empty pub and the landlord fell about laughing having not spotted me sneaking off to the dark quiet snooker room, my pals left me there as a prank!.
