please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Went by for a pint at lunch and the barmaid had her little girl in the bar playing on a computer game, I thought that kid shoulda been in school but she told me she was a single mum doing it all by herself. I happen to know of her ex fella and he doesn't get to see his little girl because of her. Bad news Fox pub, you shouldn't be letting these women be like that. Poor kid too. - pint was nothing special.

Any pub, that serves food, that has a small sign on the counter, stating"card machine broken",since March 2013,does not deserve 1 point!
yaboyabobo - 24 Jun 2014 11:28
Why do you bother going to pubs jimmyS you obviously don't like them, not one pub you've reviewed have anything nice to say! The fox is very clean, toilets included, and is a good all rounder. Great carvery.
guinnesshead - 6 Dec 2012 22:17
Horrible place. Toilets are a mess. Rowdy crowd in here. Drinks are reasonably priced. Wouldnt mind dropping back in if they cleaned it up a bit (and some of the customers also!)

I have a contract in the area so had to take the guys for a drink somewhere, having gone back today i feel my first review was harsh.
This visit staff were excellent ,well poured pint and toilets were fine.
Its a huge pub with a hidden gem of a beer garden which i didnt see on my first visit.
Even the locals seemed friendly, will be going back.

jackbar - 18 Feb 2012 12:28
pop in yesterday afternoon too watch the cricket for a hour not too bad Pub but like most been ruined by modernisation bar area is smaller than it was years ago I remember this Pub in the mid seventy's with the three separate bars etched glass windows and larger bar with glasses above bar just one big soulless room now with now . Biggest grip No Real Ale looks like Ale Pumps had so much dust on them don't think there been used since Strongers said there was none on Six moths ago.

I popped into the fox with my husband last Bank holiday monday after not having been in there for many years.I must say I was pleasently surprised. The place has changed a vast amount since I was last there. It's nice, bright and airy ( made a change from my feet sticking to the floor when I used to go there) The barmaid who served us was very cheery for a bank holiday monday (we popped in not long after opening time) and we had a nice chat with her about how the pub had changed and she was quite clued up on local history as well so it was nice to find out a bit about how things had changed in my old stomping ground! She also recommended that we come back for the sunday carvery, and pop in of a weekend to see how things had changed! So this Bank holiday thats where you'll find me!

Decided a trip to the Fox with the family was a must this weekend as I've heard so much about the roast dinners - well worth the money. The portions are very generous and before long the queue was out the door - always a good sign. Luckily we did beat the queue (early bird and all that) but all I can say is it is definitely worth the wait. Although a bit of a trek it is nice to know there is a family pub that does good food in the area. A very buzzing, happening place - floor staff were whizzing around to make sure everyone was being looked after - overall very pleasant staff although I am disappointed to say the one girl working behind the bar with the 2 boys seemed to have some issues with my partner when she was getting our drinks - all a bit of an effort for her - maybe she was having a bad day!!! Shame one person had to take the shine off. Loved the pub and will be back.

all is not lost I had a drink in my old favorite the well which has gone to the dogs and was a little depressing that there wsa no crack to be had in palmers green anymore. Then was told to head up to murrys otherwise known as the fox and low and behold it was like the wishing well patrons had just moved there. very big not what im used to but after a few pints I wasn't long getting back into swing of things. lovely bar staff one lad socer was great crack. take note Christina! and to all that don't no Christina is landlady of the wishing well down the road. fair play mighty crack in the fox
conner.henery - 23 Feb 2009 09:20
Was in over the weekend and had a lovely time, band was good too. Snowed off Monday so popped in for a jar, lovely real log fire and great thai food. Warmed me cockles!

I think strongers I must have been drinking behind you if your talking about Fri night. I too visited the same 3 pubs that night! For me The Fox won hands down. The Bible Code Sundays were playing on Fri night and were excellent (celtic rock pop with a twist to some of the latest songs around) not heard such a decent band in a long time. They are back there this Fri 5th and so will I. Asked about the real ale, manager said they are about to get the taps all redone so have taken them off recently ready for new ones. Good crowd, felt safe and doormen even found my lost jacket for me complete with phone and keys, called me a cab and let sit by the doors inside to wait although the bar was shut 45mins earlier. Dj before the band and after, I was dancing (well.....if you call it that)
guinnesshead - 2 Dec 2008 11:23
This is not a bad pub if you like your sports and lager, which I do. There are lots of plasma screens dotted about and there is also table football. There was a disco on whilst I was there playing songs like Sweet Home Alabama, not that anyone was bopping on the dance floor at the rear of the pub. The bouncers were overseeing the place with SAS proficiency, but they were friendly enough if you werent up to mischief.

Im pretty sure that there are 2 real ales, but they were both off. There is also a wide selection of standard and premium lagers.

There is a paved beer garden out the back with covered and uncovered seating.

I liked it in here and would go back.
Strongers - 2 Dec 2008 09:39
It's been a pub since 1716 - can't say I remember it then but I used to come here a lot in the late 1960's and early 1970's when it really wasn't too special. Came here again recently and it hasn't improved - still no real ale!
BobOs - 30 Aug 2008 14:04
What is going on????? All new staff yet again?????? Can't keep up with the different faces, however, not as friendly as the old staff from the time Mr Murray took over. Staff seem more interested in gathering at the end of the bar and do not seem bothered that customers are waiting to be served!! Not impressed!Except for one of the Boy's think his name is Soko who is on the ball.

Nice to see that the Irish Girl who I think is now manager is still running the Sunday Carvery as she has a great way with the customers.
poshie - 17 Jun 2008 16:24
Just to be clear- it's a 1000 times better now than it has been in about 10 years.

London28 - 13 Jun 2008 12:46
mighty pub! continually good nights being had in there. still not sure what london28 is on about,do you think it was better when them two eegits had it or the present owner? have to say good, clean and well run.
guinnesshead - 21 Apr 2008 17:38
Slick- I agree - I meant before it was turned into the Sports Pub, when that couple from Bristol owned it (Barry White & Mrs!) not in the recent past when it was full of wannabe gangsters and yobs.
London28 - 17 Apr 2008 12:49
Great pub! St Pat's day was particuarly good fun with a traditional set of musicians playing with Irish dancers and a celtic pop/rock band later on. To top it all there was a dwarf dressed as a leprechaun walking round the place. Not very pc but hilarious all the same.
A pleasant pub to visit good at weekends with bands etc and as mentioned below a great carvery on sundays followed by a traditional session. Last few weeks has been extrodinary with up to 15 musicians playing. Can't beat it.
mangan - 29 Mar 2008 09:14
Hafta say this is nother that caught me by surprise... been in oz for a few years came back to palmers green to fing that the fox is 'the bar' at the mo.

Went in, was really busy but was served within seconds, the manager made a point of welcoming me back to the area and even got a round in ???? eh???

genius, mr.murrey has done well, the staff are great including the doormen (i know i was shocked enall) and you are never kept waiting for drink!!

To shen, manageress..... you rock... and you have a new regular now....defo!!!!

Awesome....go there...eat drink and dance uncontrolably to some of the best cover-bands i've ever heard... 10/10
fussywhore - 27 Mar 2008 16:20
i disagree london28. before the current landlord took over the place was full of yobs who didn't buy drinks, only played pool, boy racers who compared cars in the car park and intimidated people.

the fox is now a friendly family pub, with rock/pop covers bands at weekends. sundays there's normally traditional irish band after dinner which is good fun. delicious carvery on a sunday and yum thai food during the week. GAA, footie and rugby shown on plasma screens dotted around the pub.

its where i'll be st patrick's day!
slick - 7 Mar 2008 09:54
Almost as good as it used to be prior to its 'facelift'all those years ago. Good music and a good atmosphere- good for football.
London28 - 2 Mar 2008 22:26
Been away for a while so popped in on Fri night to great band playing (8 piece) not too loud. Nice soft lighting a great guinness and a good crowd. Well enjoyed. Good to see standards being kept, clean and rapid service.
guinnesshead - 28 Nov 2007 12:08
This is a great pub. Clean, safe a savage carvery on a Sunday. Good nights to be had on Fri and Sat. Friendly people and friendly polite staff and that does include the door staff surprisingly! Type of pub you can bring your girlfiend to or get a girlfriend (sorry darling) go into for a quiet pint go in with your mates etc etc good all rounder.
johnboymurphy - 9 Oct 2007 15:43
Really enjoyed myself on sunday, great atmosphere, fantastic carvery like what mum used to make. All ages in here and nothing like the fox of old, full of idiots and attitude, decent people now. Beer was good ate too much and watched some mad irish game with sticks where anything goes as well as the footie. Staff were quick and polite. got to haunt this place on sundays from now, must try a weekend night!
altmann - 4 Sep 2007 10:18
Like the new decor, very nice!
anonymous - 23 Aug 2007 12:03
The Fox is probably the best pub in Palmers Green. It's a bit pricey for students but normally go the local wetherspoons first so it doesn't matter. The music is awesome and its definitely a lively pub. Much better since the new owners took over.
edwardlyne - 18 Apr 2007 19:35
Had a top night at the comedy club on friday then into front bar to listen to band. Great pub good beer good night!!
anonymous - 12 Apr 2007 14:31
Came in on Sunday and had the best Sunday Carvery I think I've ever had! And you can help yourself to as much veg and yorkshires as you pls. Stayed on for the session then, Finally dragging myself home around 12.30am. Not good for work next day! Had a blast of a day/night in Fox. Mixed crowd, from families during the day to younger crowd at night but all great fun and very polite. Staff polite and very quick (one girl able to serve 3 different groups at one time), clean and resonably priced. There was a band playing who sounded good but to tell the truth I was a wee bit drunk by then!! Good...no, very good night. Will return with vengence at the weekend!
anonymous - 2 Aug 2006 12:58
Just wanted to say, that I had a great day and evening in the fox on Saturday. I have to comment on how well the staff coped with the World Cup games and the hot weather we are having at the moment. No matter how busy the pub was they still continued to smile and laugh with the customers and seem to enjoy working with each other. I am very impressed with how well the staff are always asking if anyone is waiting to be served. Excellent Customer Service in this pub.
anonymous - 12 Jun 2006 17:44
Was at the comedy club last Thurs, top night. Christian Rielly was excellent, great fun. Busy night, so for this Thurs (a special Paddy's night of Irish acts) I think I'll book early. Def a must
anonymous - 14 Mar 2006 16:27
This is a great place to drink. Barstaff are very efficient and friendy, doorstaff are nice, especially the big guy who i think is in charge of security. Nice clientelle, no scumbags looking for a fight. Good live bands at weekends and a great atmosphere. The sunday roast is the best i've ever eaten. Highly recommended to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
anonymous - 27 Feb 2006 12:39
Another fine hangover from the fox!! Great pub, fine food good guinness and great staff. Comedy club starting again on thurs 2nd march, looks like it will be fun, a few tv faces on the circuit, will give it a try.
anonymous - 27 Feb 2006 11:25
it'll be a great bar if i get to do the door and keep the scum out.
anonymous - 17 Feb 2006 17:03
Much better than what it used to be like and probably the best in Palmers Green. They do a good sunday dinner shame I got there too late and my brother got the last one. I'll be back!
tullster - 17 Jan 2006 15:19
This local landmark of a pub has survived numerous refurbs and wildly different incarnations over the years and is currently in just about the best shape it's ever been in.
A large bar that is surprisingly well staffed in terms of both the number working at busy times and the quality of service they give. When it comes to the drinks, all seems in good order. Lagers are fresh and fizzy and served in their respective branded glasses and there is a choice of at least three on draft. Ale & Bitter drinkers are typically for this kind of modern establishment aimed at drinkers in the 18-30 age range, not as well catered for, but what they do serve is at least well kept.
Price is a bit of a drawback as 2.70 for a pint of lager this far out from the heart of town is unlikely to compare favourably with other pubs in the area, however as most of the other pubs in Palmers Green are execrable, they'll probably get away with it.
The new lay out, furnishings and paint job have all improved upon previous efforts and it's a very comfortable pub that is modern without being soulless.
Live bands show a commitment to entertaining punters which almost makes up for the demise of the comedy club that used to take place out back.
All in all a largely successful effort at creating a quality drinking establishment in the drinking wastelands of N13 and even the doormen are friendly.
Avoid on Friday and Saturday nights if you are claustrophobic though, as it gets stuffed to the gills and if you don't get in early enough to bag a table, it can be uncomfortably crowded in the standing area near the bar.

What a brilliant night I had in the Fox in Palmers Green. Door staff are very friendly and the staff are excellent. Joe Murray what can I say, Keep the girls only on Saturday night!!! These girls really make you enjoy your night out by singing and dancing and make you part of this happy atmosphere which they create. Keep smiling ladies !!!!!
anonymous - 14 Nov 2005 09:38
Great night, good clean and fun. I'll have some more of that!!
anonymous - 19 Oct 2005 10:48
Had a fantastic night in there on sat, good band served quickly and really friendly atmosphere. some cracking looking girls!
guinnesshead - 3 Oct 2005 15:07
definite improvement but the menu has bugger all for veggies so that's a big minus. Live band tonight called Short Tempers - okay for a cover band but the lead guitarist was also the lead vocalist - he's good on lead guitar but the bass player was the better vocalist so swop them over and it could be a good band. Shame the 2 fat girls dancing spoiled the view! 5 doormen/bouncers trying to look hard but made me laugh in their attempts to look hard - chewing gum vigorously only signals guys on speed - most amusing. Fecking cold pub though....
elllie - 1 Oct 2005 23:23
Superb job! Well done to mr murray for getting rid of the trouble factor, introducing some great bands and good food. Can't wait for carvery to start. friendly, lively with space to move. Nice staff and doormen! Gotta try it.
anonymous - 28 Sep 2005 12:01
What a place to drink!!!!! The atmosphere is fantastic, warm, relaxing and friendly. Barstaff are friendly and welcoming as are the bouncers, good typical irish bands playing on a sunday. what a hoot.
this is the place to be on a weekend night, bring on the late licence!!!!!!!!!!
horny - 19 Sep 2005 16:26
Great atmosphere, good bands, top Sunday roast - under new management and a definite improvement
anonymous - 19 Sep 2005 10:58
This pub has now reopened and this past Saturday night was a blast - great band playing "Bedrock" who played Beatles, Rolling Stones, Chilli Peppers and more up to date stuff from U2, Stereophonics etc. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and the bar staff did a great job serving considering how busy it was. No chavs or troublemakers and the doormen were friendly (yes they do exist!) Check it out if you get the chance!
anonymous - 8 Aug 2005 14:51
In total agreement with all the comments below. Seemed as though the old clientele were youngsters who drove their flash cars down there, didn't drink and were just looking for a row - a lot of people stopped drinking there including myself for that exact reason.

Now under new management and should be opening in the next week or two. Should have been opening tonight (15/7) but due to some last minute hitches, unfortunately this has been postponed.

A little birdie tells me the new landlord has got rid of the pool tables and it should be more family orientated with good food and live music at weekends.
slick - 15 Jul 2005 09:17
Went past the other day and the place was closed down. This is a terrible shame as prior to its 'face lift' a few years ago it was a typical friendly English boozer. Hopefully, the new landlords will bring back some of the peace and friendly punters who used to frequent before it became the Bosnian-Serbian front line of North London. Agree completely with the 4 previous comments, may I suggest new ground rules for the Fox should include: 1, No pencil beards. 2, No white vests. 3, None of those Marlboro leather Jackets 4, No guns and 5, No 16 year old Greek Gansters.

NorfLondon - 4 Jun 2005 17:34
Scumhole!
BigBadJohn - 7 Dec 2004 21:51
Used to be a v.nice boozer - but sadly it now attracts thugs. Not the pub or its staff's fault, but only recently two blokes were stabbed and another shot. Eastern Europeans involved. (Source: Enfield Independent newspaper).
Owen - 7 Oct 2004 15:10
full of kids who think they are gangsters. Horrible beer and a generally rough crowd.
kevin - 8 Sep 2004 09:36
An absolute dive . Full of idiots that think they are bad boys.I noticed that lots of the lads were going to the toilet a lot, hmmm wonder what that was about? Sniff Sniff? Easily the worst pub in Palmers Green.
anonymous - 11 Aug 2004 13:15
Quite a nice interior, friendly bar staff. Been here several times but recent visits have put me off - there were a few loud and lary thug-types (who seem to be regulars there) gave the atmosphere a feeling of impending fights - hence the bouncers on the door I guess. Shame that.
elllie - 11 Jul 2004 14:15
