please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Don't know why I haven't reviewed before now having been here several times in the last few years.
Lovely pub with low beams and plenty of character. I went for a meal which is very acceptable Thai at a reasonable price. The ales are well kept and pulled Sussex Ales.
It's becoming a regular watering hole for me now.

Take my word for it. It's a great pub. Don't take Hanck's - anyone who refers to a leek a leak or pastry pastery clearly hasn't got a clue.

Nice pub in lovely countryside. Very friendly staff. Doombar, Pride & Harveys on, the Doombar was very good. Food OK, roasts on menu on a Sunday but no sandwiches. Got pretty busy on a Sunday lunchtime, might need booking if you want to eat.

Having popped in for a Sunday drink was impressed by the welcome, the general atmosphere and the fayre. Am waiting to try the Thai cuisine.

I was unimagineably taken aback to read Hanck's woeful and inaccurate review of the Plough in Dormansland. I am a regular visitor to this wonderful country pub, and always find the warm and friendly welcome from Simon and Jo Jo to be a refreshing change to the one you get in some other hostelries in the vicinity. I have eaten there on numerous occasions and have always found the food to be fresh and well prepared, not to mention delicious. Strange then, that this self-professed Pie Meister (and it must surely be 'Meister' given that 'Hank' is burdened ominously with an unneccessary 'C' - or is there a hidden meaning in there somewhere?) should take it upon himself to pronounce that the re-heating of chicken is in some way an affront to the great world of gastronomy. Chicken is a regular benificiary of re-heating in restaurants and pubs throughout the land. It's how kitchens operate! What does he think is going on in there? That there's an army of chefs wandering around aimlessly, just waiting for the nod to build 'good ole, big ole, bad ole pie boy' Hanck a customised bleedin' chicken pie!? "Table 6. One chicken pie!" "Yes Chef. I'll just pop out the back there and see if I can't catch me some livin' chicken!" Dream on Hanck. These people have a business to run. The Plough is a fab pub and I would have no hesitation in recommending it, it's food and it's friendly staff and regulars to anyone passing through the area.

PS. Apparently, according to my man in the pub, on his first visit to the Plough, Pie Boy Hanck pointed out that he hadn't wanted re-heated chicken. So, on his second visit, the Chef, always alert to his discerning clientel's specific dietry requirements, duly obliged by NOT re-heating the chicken in Hanck's pie on that occasion.

PPS. According to my other man in the pub, it seems that eternal riddle - 'Who has eaten all our pies?' has finally been solved. Why . . It was Pie Boy Hanck of course!!

A lovely period pub in a gorgeous part of the countryside. Lots of walks around great for dogs. Was there recently for a charity auction raising money for a local hospital and managed to get hold of a great few items for the missus! Harveys and Pride are on tap and goes down well with the lunchtime food which, on my visits at least (I can't speak for Hanck!!) tasty and filling.

I simply must take issue with the comment posted by Hanck of the Plough being a "poor public house". Is the fact that he had re-heated chicken the one and all criteria by which to judge a pub? we all know that pubs have varying chefs and Hanck obviously hit the wrong chef on the wrong day. Whilst I can't comment on the food he had (and yes, cold and reheating is NOT ON) I have had very decent food there and sometimes even plain delicious - depending on who cooks. But folks - the pub is simply charming, cosy, lively yet relaxing, very welcoming and Simon & Jo are great young licensees who manage to pack the place with an interesting and varied local and afar crowd. The Thai food can be very good indeed and adds an interesting other dimension. So I am afraid Hanck - I suggest you eat your words - if you can digest them!

What a poor public house. The food appears to be standard frozen food by Brake Brothers or 3663. Ordered Chicken leak and ham pie with mash. Got chicken leak and ham stew with puff pastery top, not a pie! It was also cold when staff told of it the food was taken away and REHEATED!!! REHEATED chicken!!!!! Please my advice steer well clear off this place if you value your health.

A lovely pub, great atmosphere, tasteful decorated with a warm feel. Beers were good, especially the Harveys. Pub menu was standard offering, but with the odd twist, plus they do Thai food. You can buy eggs and other local fayre there too. I visited on a Thursday and it was busy. Friendly staff made my first visit a pleasant one.

I took three of my brothers here for a meal last week. The staff are friendly and joked with my Australian relatives as if they had known them for years. Good food and beer and very warm atmostphere. I will be back soon for sure.

What a fantastic pub, great staff, wonderful food and beer. Had the pleasure of spending New Years Eve there and what a memorable night it was.

Keep up the good work Simon & Jo

The Plough has recently been taken over by Simon who use to have The Hare & Hounds in Lingfied and his partner Joanne, they have made a huge change to the atmosphere and it is quickly becoming a great pub once again. The Thai food is still on the menu and they have upgraded the luchtime menu, thoughly worth a visit.

Decent enough old pub - certainly a lovely building with great character and a huge garden. Beers good enough, but food not really up to scratch. Worth a visit though.
