Above average Wetherspoons with a good selection of local ales (mostly Newby Wyke on my visit), unfortunately served through a sparker. Very cheap as expected and reasonable service.

The Tollemache Inn is a large corner Wetherspoons at the edge of Grantham town centre. Service was good and the ale range was also reasonable for a Wetherspoons - Ruddles Best, Greene King Abbot, Adnams Broadside, Sharps Doom Bar, Grafton Lady Mary, Oldershaw Blonde & Newton's Drop, Newby Wyke Black Beerd's Extra & Rudgate Battle Axe. Ciders were Hecks Glastonbury Gold, Cornish Orchards Pear Cider, Barbourne Crimson King, Hunts Mary Maud's Medium, Perry's Somerset Cider & Sandford Orchards The Collaborators. A few were in to watch the rugby, which was on the TVs with sound. Grantham is one of those towns where the Wetherspoons is a welcome addition. Only the Nobody Inn, Chequers and the Lord Harrowby can really beat it.

Good range of real ales. Staff pleasant and locals friendly. Decent JDW pub.

Since my post of 19 Dec 10 I have been back several times and continue to like the place. But, my usual moan about 'Spoons pubs, whilst the staff are great there just aren't enough of them on duty at any one time. On my last visit a few days ago I went in at a busy time and there was NOBODY behind the bar!! After a few minutes,. whilst the queue of thirsty punters grew, one little lady appeared and was promptly swamped by customes who clearly believed that one of the roles of a pub is to dispense liquor. I know the booze and food are cheap because they keep overheads down but this is taking things to absurdity.

Still serves an excellent range of ales and decent ciders. All in excellent condition. Friendly pleasent bar staff. The interior could do with a good clean and a lick of paint though.

Based on one visit, I would agree with Stamfordian - for a 'Spoons boozer this one is not too bad. Bit of a shock (and smell) on entry - piles of used plates and glasses making it hard to find a place to put your glass and a number of elderly locals clearly dug in for the day and not shifting - but it all got cleared up quickly. Obviously very popular with all ages and circumstances, singles, old geezers, women taking a break from shopping and masses of families. The great pull is clearly the pricing - a range of beers for a couple of quid and a large glass of house plonk for 2.95. Not for the fastidious but fine for a couple of midday pints.

ok for a cheap meal on curry night beers pretty good but a little pricey compared to the goose, the place does seriously need a re-fit though

Consistently one of my favourite Spoons for beer quality, range (some good dark beers) and friendly welcome - what more do you want ?

Friendly welcome at the bar and a totally spot on pint of ale (Newby Dyke"Marie Celeste").Popped in @ half eleven on a friday morning and was good to see the place busy and doing a brisk trade on breakfasts. 7/10

As Wetherspoons pubs go, this is rather a good one. Beer generally well kept, usually a good selection from local breweries, and quite a pleasant atmosphere.

Decent beer, poor service and not particularly cheap.

W*nkerspoons is W*nkerspoons really, although this one is a cut above the others, six local brewery beers available and clean and pleasent surroundings. They seemed to have missed the delivery of drunken irishmen, dole scroungers, single mothers and na'er do wells that normally frequent the front of these pubs, perhaps the delivery lorry got lost?

An excellent range of beers available. Usually some from Oldershaws and Brewsters which are brewed in town. Friendly bar staff. A great place to drink and only 5 mins walk from the railway station.

Nice pints of Theakstons XB and Gourmet Burger. Good selection of cask ales, spoit for choice, Nice place lunchtime!

As far as Wetherspoons go, this is definitely one of the better ones. The corner location means the interior is surprisingly light and airy, and the tables aren't crammed in the way they tend to be in other Spoons. Beer range was good with six or seven real ales available.

This place has a central location and quite cheap for the town. Good choice of real ale and plenty of comfy sofas. Toilets are upstairs and a country mile away when you are sufficiently bladdered.
