Now opened again, but not as a pub. It is now a Turkish restaurant , which will no doubt be a welcome addition to all the other Greek and Turkish restaurants in the Palmers Green area...

Yes Closed again it was a good free house with some unusual Ales but what spoilt it for me is when they started allowing children in & showing Sport Etc. As this was already done by several Pubs in the area including the spoons which was cheaper It seemed silly. This Put off Most the drinkers that just wanted a quiet Pint & too read the Paper they just went elsewhere.

Unfortunately they did not.
Its now shut again with a for sale sign outside...

As committed below, revisited to try it out now that they have got going properly. Now got two ales on in the shape of Fullers Pride and Youngs Special at an introductory offer of 1.80 a pint. Not the best pint of pride ever, but drinkable.
The dcor doesnt seem to have altered much from the previous incarnation except that it is pitching firmly now as a family pub. The bar is in front of you as you enter, the area to the left is set up as alcove seating but the area to the right is more for dining and as mentioned below has a play area. This is set quite some way back from the main bar area, which hopefully means that the little darlings are contained down this end and the pub doesnt resemble a creche at lunchtime.
Few people in on yesterday Friday evening so not a lot of atmosphere. But hopefully that will improve as people get to realise its open again.
Unfortunately it still suffers from not having an outside drinking area, so smokers still have to congregate outside on the High Road which is not the greatest welcome when you pitch up to go in.
But at a time when pubs are closing by the bucket load I hope this new Whole Hog can make a go of it.

My Daughter and I popped in for lunch and had a great time, it's nice to see that there's a place to cater for children! the staff were pleasant and my daughter had was occupied for hours in the new play area, i have to say i was surprised by the change here. I will be visiting again and wish the team well.

Funny, when I popped in today to try it out on the way down to the Alfred Herring, I thought it said it opened yesterday and they will not start the food service until next Sunday (the 28th), but what do I know....
Anyway there was no food on today and no beer to talk of , so didn't stay and no rating left.
I'll probably try again in a couple of weeks when they have got going properly..

This pub reopened 2 weeks ago and judging by the experience I've just had it'll probably won't stay open long, young dynamic management indeed. Food order was wrong, beer order was wrong, charged for a child's meal we were told was free and then just plain overcharged, plus I was informed that the ladies toilet looked like it had never been cleaned. The gents was a little shabby also but I'm not too fussy. I'm not surprised that the place was empty despite having a 30% discount offer on the food (which they kindly neglected to apply to my bill). They did try to amend the errors by not charging for the meal that was wrong but I for one will certainly not be frequenting the place again. If anyone does feel they've been bad and need to be punished by all means go, but do make sure you clarify in triplicate the exact make up of your order.

This place is still closed, but there is a sign outside saying "under new management" and "opening soon".

It dose not look good either with all the staff standing in the door way smoking. Also as well as this you now get the local youths standing in the door way smoking when not playing pool. I see at least three people/customers put off coming in by this whilst I was in here. Ales London Porter was in good condition but G/K IPA was not all that good. Pub surroundings are in good condition & nice and clean even the toilets. Good points no TV or kids make it worth a visit as well as some good Ales on.
there taking part in the Mild in may month in May so should see some good Milds on.

Not a great ad when you see the manager and staff sitting in the pub eating KFC!!!

Hasn't changed cosmetically since its Weatherspoons days.

I went in here last night early 16:30 Monday evening. found it very good nice & quiet with no TVs Blasting out or Kids running around like that awful Wetherspoons up the road. Had three Pints of Red Squirrel Conservation Ale which was in very good condition served in over sized glasses as well and at only 2.00 A Pint very good value as well. I would definitely return and recommend to others. Good Pub if your with company or want to talk & chat with Friends.

Spent too much time in here after School. Hi to any ex/current Latymerians that drink/drank there.

Still a bell on the bottom bar?
anonymous - 10 Jan 2007 01:03
what's happening? Is it permanently closed or just a refurb?
crimsonpirate - 4 Nov 2006 15:51
Out patients delight. Cheap food/beer and loads of nutters.
DennisBeer - 19 Jan 2005 12:31
This is in the process (apparently) of changing back from a Wetherspoon's pub (amen to that) so the food menu was in transition from Wetherspoon's slop to a new one - can't be any worse than Wetherspoon's can it? Nice interior, gets busy on a Saturday night, friendly mixed crowd. I'll be back :o)
