It is a little on the expensive side, but a very pleasant pub. One thing is that the bar staff are allowed to wear their own clothes rather than being dressed in drab all black outfits which seem to be the norm in almost every pub I have been to recently

Contunuing my exploration of Nottingham Boozers, I stumble on this place. Large, proper looking pub. Couple of real ales on. Decent pub.

tend to agree with the last poster with exception to being "not overly expensive" I had a Castle Rock Harvest Pale and was charged 3.10 which without doubt is the most expensive pint of Harvest I have experinced in Notts & Derbys. Other than that I agree with nivramkram.

Nice clean pub, good food and Ales but its real atraction is the Best Selection of excellent Rums in Nottingham if not the Midlands, and not overly expensive either.

Pretty nice chain pub. Good beer garden, comfy seats, big tables and a very wide selection of beer and cocktails make this a good place to take a varied group of friends.

Great decor, great selection of food & booze (their current rum collection makes me veerry happy), nice to have a well-made cocktail at a reasonable price (get the 1 cocktail card, well worth it), without having to be served by someone who thinks they're a bartending jesus (cough*brassmonkey*cough). You do sometimes have to wait a bit for service, due to cocktail orders, but that's how it is in cocktail bars. The ale is occassionally not quite up to scratch, if they could work on that, all will be forgiven!

Excellent bar. Great choice of beers, ciders, wine and cocktails. Certainly students predominate but others, even middle-aged men welcome. I'm back there tomorrow...

This is possibly the cleanest pub I've ever been in. It is spotless.
Whoever keeps the place clean deserves a pay increase.

This pub is situated around the corner from the University, so I'm not sure why it is such a shock to other reviewers on this site who happen to find students drinking here.
I love the artwork on the walls.

I only had time for one quick pint here and I can't remember what it was. But it was nice.

One quibble -
The barman seemed incapable of serving more than one customer at a time. I queued for almost 5 minutes to order one drink, there were only four of us in the queue and two people in front of me were only paying for food. The pub wasn't busy at the time.

Quibbles aside, I will tell anyone to drop in here when they visit Nottingham.

Good pub, good beer.

Did the place undergo a refurb lately ?
It's so clean !

Don't know why people rave about this place so much. Sure, it's ok, but you could do a lot better.

The cocktails are good, but quite expensive and take a long time to make, meaning that you can expect to queue FOREVER at the bar when it's busy
Ale is good quality, but not a big selection, and there is a decent range of bottled/draught beers, lagers and ciders, plus wines, all of which are, however, pretty overpriced. Same goes for the food, really: quite good, but definitely overpriced and not served late enough.

Gets VERY busy at weekends and given the amount of space-hogging leather couches you need to get in early to find somewhere to sit. Also a predominantly too-cool-for-school trendy student crowd. Nice beer garden, however, and the staff are generally friendly.

Go for a couple in the afternoon, maybe cocktail happy hour, and avoid later on in the evening.

An excellent pub. Good beers and pleasant surroundings and a nice outside area. Plenty of students but seem to be the more sensible type. Certainly a better place than the nearby Newcastle which seems to lost it recently only partly due to the smoking ban.

nice place, whenever I'm back I always head for here.

Went in last night (thursday), it's a bit loud, and pretty crowded, but OK. A lot of trendy looking students (I think) in there later on.

The Batemans XB was 2.40 a pint, and tasted good. There was a guest beer as well. Staff were freindly, atmospere was relaxed. We stood, but there were a few tables and easy chairs.

Decent pub, the beer was OK, I'd go again, maybe towards the end of the evening when I don't mind the loud music so much! (getting old....)

Upmarket older studey/post grad place, which lets the older punter sit around its big wooden tables-nice chill out music & cocktail range-well worth a look.

Really nice place. not too loud but with the pleasing buzz of conversation. The decor is nice arty without being pretentious plus most of the work is on sale.

went for a quick drink, ended up staying for ages. The cocktails are superb!

The student quiz a bastion of Sunday night entertainment here (apparently) has, after two glorious years, ended. I'm sorry.
My girlfriend and I were at the last one.
It was well done, if you like that kind of thing.
If you're here for the beer well, we felt a compulsion to drink up and out to somewhere better.

didn't go in for 6 months after it opened, but glad i did eventually, i can't keep out of the place. the foods amazing, the cocktails are even better. i agree with the guy below the staff are super friendly. it does live music on thursdays. in conclusion you can go to this pub for a nice relaxing drink and a something to eat in the day and then have a party in the evening. ah well who needs a degree anyway!!

I went here for a birthday do and wasn't expecting to like it but did. It's gone upmarket with posh couches and contemporary art on the walls. The place is quite big and seems a bit too big to be cosy with all those couches, but big enough to have seperate areas to hide away in. This makes it feel fairly empty but I probably wouldn't like it if it was packed out.

There were two real ales alongside the usual plus a couple of continental beers. Also cheap cocktails at various times during the week. The food's supposed to be very good but I didn't try it.

I returned recently on a Saturday night and there was no problem finding somewhere to sit and the music wasn't too loud.

Very studenty, used to be called Russells, before that the Clinton Arms.

Open til after midnight at the weekends, apparently.
