A few of the locals from the Rose & Crown (the best pub in Wallington, Surrey) decamped to Salisbury for a masonic weekend in the local hotel (The Milford Park Hotel, see review). Seasoned pubgoers, all we needed somewhere where we'd be catered for in a manner to which we were accustomed. The George & Dragon (or should it be the George & Parrot?) did not disappoint. Friendly staff and customers, good pub grub, three or four real ales, all in first class condition and a nice garden overlooking the Avon. Luis had long and meaningful conversations with the resident parrot and we all enjoyed our two visits. We will return.

Not very impressive on a recent wet Sunday evening. Reasonable selection of beers - Doombar, Bombardier and Best, but atmosphere lacking

Used to be my local when I lived in Salisbury 1996-2000. Used to be a very popular locals pub, with some passing evening trade and a crowd from the Friends Provident office directly opposite on Fridays!

Went back lunchtime today for the first time in about six years and the changes have only improved it further without losing the pubby feel. Pleased to see that Linda was still behind the bar despite a number of ownership changes over the last few years.

More inviting now you can see in better from the street. Good London Pride for 3.00 (same range of beers as poster below says). Short food menu, good service. Free house.

More light gets in and the extended area out to the garden means more room without making it feel like a corporate chain pub. Piped music, TVs for sport (sound off when I was there). Didn't go outside but garden looks smart for November!

Would definitely recommend going in here - only 200 yards or so from the Market Square.

4 handpumps had 3 ales on offer (Hopback Summer Lightning,Ringwood Best and Fullers London Pride)I opted for the Summer Lightning that was tip top and only 2.50 pint!! The lady at the bar was very friendly and welcoming and the whole atmosphere was comfy and relaxed. 7/10

Nice pub with great beer garden. Food was basic Pub food but big portions and good quality. Would Pop in again when in Salisbury.

My band gigs here travelling up from Poole. The landlord and his staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help the band. We are looking forward to Spring and Summer gigs here when we rock some bigger crowds. Drinks seem fine.

Unremarkable boozer in the town centre that I stopped in for a very swift one after watching Salisbury v York. Barmaid seemed incapable of pouring a pint of Becks Vier without giving it a giant head and spilling it everywhere. For some reason, Location, Location, Location was playing loudly on the pub tellies whilst an obnoxious patron wearing a Llanelli rugby union shirt talked disparagingly of northern cities. Not brilliant.

Very nicely refurbished now, with 95% of it non-smoking. 2.90 for a pint of London Pride soured the enjoyment, though.

Lovely garden and decent enough food compensated for the shock of 2.80 for a pint of Summer Lightning. Have a half over your grub, then walk up the hill to the Wyndham Arms and save yourself a few bob.

Good beer - but expensive. Try the Duck Inn at Laverstock instead for excellent Hopback beers!

When I moved to Salisbury last year I thought I had found a little treasure in this pub but unfortunately as the year has gone by the beer has become over-expensive, less attention gets paid to the food (broccoli bake, for instance, was just broccoli with cheese on the top and no sauce), and the attitude of some - though, to be fair, not all - of the younger staff can be supercilious to the point of rudeness.

London Pride 2.60 a pint...OUCH!
