Re-opened about a year ago as The Gloucester Old Spot. Really good food, always a few good ales on tap and a definite improvement on the Kellaway, which wasn't too bad anyway.
Large garden and decent space inside. Breakfasts and burgers are all excellent. Thoroughly recommended.

I rather fancy the weaknesses outlined by the last contributor 9 months ago have improved since - with the exception of the good-looking barmaid who if it is the same girl who served us remains so and needs no improving. I believe 5 beers were available; not all were unusual, but a few ubiquitous offerings provide familiar territory for the less-adventurous quaffer and help to keep ale sales ticking over nicely. I would say the beer was kept well and was clean, clear and tasty. Food was available but although being hungry we decided against it, and opted for Snickers bars instead to prolong the need for a solid savoury meal, which would only have got in the way of the core activity: boozing.

Big screen was on which I wouldn't normally enjoy but it was showing the latest Test match which was of interest to us, if nobody else.

I suspected a recent refurb, as things were rather spruce and breezy indoors, and the outdoor signage style implies a recent addition. It looks like some money has been invested and I'd guess it has been a worthwhile project. Keep this up and the Kellaway could get back to its hey-day soon.

CAME in a few days ago , only 2 real ales on , the guest one just blown , too bright ,and too light for me , plus the customers , deliverance comes too mind , the good looking bar maid apart , who was about , the only reason worth visiting the pub again for , we could not have organisedv a decent ping pong match .

Not been in for years but gave it a try after hearing good things. Very welcoming and good service with 5 beers on pump on my visit and the Exmoor Gold that I drank was tip top.

As the review below said it lacked character in the past but the sympathetic decoration of the pub seems to have addressed that negative factor and though not many in the atmosphere was good. well worth a look.

Always felt this pub lacked something (atmosphere?) in the past but new incarnation is a vast improvement. Really impressive range of well kept beers and food looked good and was going down well when I was in. Accidentally arrived during Happy Hour (5-7) which meant all ales and ciders were 2.50. :-)

Very firendly and helpful staff. Well worth a visit.

Totally agree with last review. Popped in on a saturday afternoon recently; beer on top form and staff extremely friendly. Went back the next saturday evening with m'good lady wife and the food was excellent. I really hope the new management succeeds here.

Has been reopened yet again since the last post on here. Very friendly welcome form the staff - the pub now split into two distinct area: one for drinkers, the other for diners. The best thing about it is the great choice of beers: Cotleigh 25, Wye Valley HPA, Cheddar Potholer, Hook Norton Best, Spitfire, and one from Wickwar. The ones we tried were in tip top condition and not too pricey - also had a small 'try before you buy' glass beside the pumps which was a nice touch. Food also reasonably priced and the Sunday lunch was excellent. Pub tastefully refurbished - open fires and comfy seating. All in all, really impressed and will be back.
