Rubbish service and mediocre food. We had a booking for 8pm for a table of four. We werent seated due to their overbooking until 8.45pm and didnt eat until well after 9.30pm. There were at least 4 other groups waiting the same amount of time as us. We werent offered so much as an apology, even when we asked about some of drinks being taken off the bill because of the service, they just laughed at us like we were out of our mind. Stay away!

It has reopened as an Asian restaurant and bar. Outside the scaffolding is still up. Went past a week ago, it was dead, with plenty of staff to be seen. Lots of colourful walls and sofas. Hmm, might pop in for a quick one next time I go past.
Tubeboy - 27 Jan 2010 12:38
Yeah the windows are covered with newspaper when I went past today. Was in there a month ago. Manager said the place was making nothing, not a surprise.
Tubeboy - 7 Sep 2009 22:14
It Is definitely closed down Now a notice on the door says ceased trading on 8th August Closed till further notice And its still closed today on 18th August.
Alesonly - 19 Aug 2009 00:45
I think someone was having a laugh Grecian, saying it was closed, unless it was temporary [hopefully the toilet was fixed during the closure]
Tubeboy - 5 Jan 2009 14:22
This was open when I visited on 30 December, so I'm not sure how that ties in with Tubeboy's report from 17 December. It's a resoundingly mediocre place which clearly aspires to be some sort of lifestyle bar but in reality lacks any distinctive qualities at all. No real ale.

This Place also Appears to be closed as well as Erris opposite but there again not as much of a loss.
Alesonly - 30 Dec 2008 19:07
Walked past it tonight, a message written in biro was stuck to the door saying it has closed down...it then tells people to go to the Spoons opposite!!!!

With a business ethic like that, it is no surprise it has folded. Place was always empty, eerily so. I wouldnt say the staff were rude, they just seemed bored and fed up. Seemed to run on a skeleton staff.

Food and drink were ok, the emptiness was good if you wanted a quiet couple with a mate, but no atmosphere. Toilet never worked!!!!

Thankfully never saw the DJ, but went past it on a few fridays, and I agree with the other posters that it just encouraged the lowlifes of North Finchley.

With the spoons 1 minute walk to the left and an O 'Neills 1 minute walk to the right, it was doomed to failure. Not that they are great pubs. Best pub in N12 is the Elephant Inn.

Pfft. 'Best pub in North Finchley'. Thats like saying Goering was the least evil Nazi. Avoid. Two points for all that leather.
northoftheriver - 11 Dec 2007 16:30
Nicely furnished but sadly the staff couldn't give a damn. It attracts completely the wrong type of customers at the weekend due to an awful DJ. All the good beers are usually off as the customers stick with Alcopops. Best avoided.
Anarkand - 4 Dec 2007 19:02
scummy pub in the evening with the most awful customers and quality of service. staff are rude and cold with an inability to hold conversation. regular fights outside and a pavement left covered in vomit from the 12 year old clientle who cant have a smirnoff ice without hurling.

AVOID!

If your over 21 Do yourself a favour go to O'Neill's The Elephant Inn or the Tally Ho this place is Only for Kids Under 21 most look Under 18 its a terrible place.
anonymous - 8 Sep 2007 17:35
Decided to give this place a miss, after seeing all the kids and yet more trouble outside
Ste111 - 19 Aug 2007 05:42
awful beer, awful staff and awaful customers, really chavy and average age of 12!!!
anonymous - 11 Jun 2007 10:22
I was in here last Thursday and thought that the service was quick and friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed.

This was until around 21:00 when a DJ started his set and the volume cranked up and within a matter of seconds the average age of the clientele dropped by 15 years. Unfortunately I was sitting directly under a speaker so I couldnt hear myself think.

I ended up leaving at 21:15, but I would go again if I was in North Finchley during the daytime.
Strongers - 8 May 2007 13:31
Don't like the place at all. Friday & Saturday full of posers, who are so much up there own ass it makes the place feel unfriendly & it's very hard to get served or even get in. Head for O'Neill's any day, more relaxed friendly atmosphere & no dress code.

Not bad during the day, but turns into a wretched wannabe Yates hellhole on weekend evenings. The only good thing about this place is its late license. Hopefully now that licensing laws are starting to get more liberal these sorts of places will lose their raison d'etre and disappear. We can always hope anyway...
Crow_Valley - 4 Jun 2006 23:27
Never going back here - went on a sat hassle getting in hassle getting served, clientelle were just pure shabby - couldnt wait to get out
tullster - 17 Jan 2006 15:28
A dump, full of wanabe chavs and overpriced beer. If you're pissed up and just want a dance then it's fine, but otherwise head somewhere decent. Dress code policy is obviously pretentious crap (surely they're not trying to imitate the even worse Yates down the road). Was far better as an O'Neils.
OldRogue - 5 Jan 2006 12:03
When you live you in suburbia you have to accept certain facts and North Finchley aint Hoxton! Of the lot thats on offer it probably is the best pub but that is not something to be too proud of as there really isnt much class and competition in North Finchley.
Prefer weekdays to weekends when it still manages to attract some short skirt with flabby thighs tarts from the surrounding areas and the music is cranked up enough to turn it into suburbia disco. Some guy playing nice funky house tunes on a Wednesday a while ago.

not keen anymore. has strange dress codes even in the middle of the day when theres about 5 people in there.

fair enough have a dress code at night but in the middle of a weekday does it really matter?

When i worked at this pub, Ian Ellis was the little camp dwarf manager!! He seems to be slagging himself off in the comment below, and he was the one who insisted on the "voted number one bar in finchley" sign being put up in the window....
anonymous - 18 Aug 2005 16:33
Nice relaxing atmosphere, good floor service and friendly staff! resonably good food and prices.

note: love the two foreign girls that do floor service!!! dont forget to tip!! staff in general lots of fun.

good for a silly night out, gets busy on friday and sat when djs play.

karlijnlo - 16 Jul 2005 14:42
Much improved now that the little camp dwarf has left.

Since the refit from the Belgrave this pub has ideas far above it's station (like a poster claiming it had been voted 'best pub in finchley' - BY WHO?)

Also famous for claiming quality food in one window and advertising for a Chef with No Experience necessary in the next window.

This pub will improve when they relax the admission rules and hire professional bar staff instead of children.

quaysfan - 6 May 2005 11:24
dont know if anyones mentioned this but you can see the autumn house in the film shaun of the dead. the electrical shop shaun works in is the one oppositte. If you look carefully you can see the autumn house in the background out of the window of the shop.
antmcguire - 8 Apr 2005 14:52
also home to z list celebs if that is your thing. gets too busy for me at weekend and can be expensive
anonymous - 9 Mar 2005 11:27
friendly stuff, nice atmosphere not only on weekends; give it an 8
Roland - 22 Oct 2004 16:11
I used to drink here when I worked in North Finchley, I liked the atmosphere, and although the funky seating is not always the comfiest! At weekends a DJ comes and there is a dance floor at back, which can be a laugh after a drink or two. Definitely worth a visit.
Jo - 19 Jun 2004 01:14
this is where the good looking and trndy finchley locals go. gets busy on a fri or sat night.

good range of beers and wine and decent food during the day.
