user reviews of Scotsmans Pack Inn, Hathersage

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Scotsman's Pack is situated a little off the main drag, next to a local school. The interior is nicely appointed. Quite a few people were arriving for food. Most of the tables were also laid out for diners. Being a Marston's establishment, the ale choice was limited to their range. Pedigree is the regular ale. It was accompanied by Wainwright, Cumberland Ale, Saddle Tank & Dirty Tackle. Service was friendly.

Large pub, set mainly for dining, on the edge of the village.

Marstons Pedigree was in fine condition.

Very good food, but not the place to go if you just want a pint, as most of the place is reserved for diners. If in Hathersage, come here if you want some decent pub grub, go to the Littlejohn about 5 minutes walk away if you want a few jars.

fair enough we walked in at 5 to 2 when they were going to stop serving food, but if they didn't want any business from my partner and I, they could have just told us that they had finished for the afternoon.

instead, we received a rude and cold welcome from the landlord who seemed reluctant to take a food order from us. ( we are surprised that they were not welcoming of us since we were the only people in his pub at the time wanting to pay him money....)

the food was nothing special. my steak pie was dry and i swear the pastry was reinforced with concrete. my partner had 2 lumps of cheese, some bread and some salad for 10.

the landlord didn't care to use any manners at all and he certainly didn't want to say bye to us as he slipped into the back room as we left.

if you're in hathersage and are looking for a warm-welcoming traditional english pub, which serves top quality home cooked food at a reasonable price, then AVOID THIS AT ALL COSTS.

Visited today for a quick pint outside in the sunshine.
They had Marstons and Wychwood beers on draught, I had a Brakespeare Summer beer which was fine.
The pub inside looked very nice, albeit geared towards food, but due to the weather, everyone was outside.
Cannot comment on the food, but the pub seemed well looked after.

Stayed overnight here late last year. The beer was good and the food was fine. Only problem was that this pub's has serious attitude problems. As outsideres we were constantly overlooked in favour of the regulars. Not a good advert for them and I'll reflect that in the rating.

Avoid this place at all costs, especially if your an outsider. Visited recently and staff didn't really want to serve me but talk to the locals. All tables had reserved signs on them which was very off putting. Go to the little John down the road its a million times better.

Now changed hands and seems heavily geared towards the food side, to the extent that all tables bar one were laid out for meals with 'Reserved' notices on them in the middle of the week.

Complete lack of welcome or greeting from the landlord, all staff pretty disinterested, even in people who did want food, which seemed very expensive.

Very lacking in pub atmosphere.

Excellent food and good value too.
Bar staff a little 'bloody tourists' in attitude but nothing serious.
Follows the old pub opening times and appear amazed when people find this stupid and quaint.
Plaque on the wall lists previous landlords !! How up your own ar5e is this?!!

parking can be a liitle restricted but the menu, certainly at Lunch times is extensive both Bar menu and Specials are both good value.
The bar has a good range of beers and wines and soft drinks.

Great range of affordable food - far from 'run of the mill'.
