I had better beer - Just about everywhere!

Needs to raise its game on the beer front if it wants to compete with the excellent pubs in Carshalton down the road (and get rid of the smell of paint that overwhelms the place)

Packed today with fans of the "Dark Side" watching the game. Family had a meal, which was surprisingly good & definitely value for money. No real ale - just a choice between John Smiths (which I wouldn't give to my worst enemy) or Ruddles Best. Despite the lack of beer & number of Walham Green's finest, I do really like this pub.

3 hand pumps and none of them serving anything???

REALLY ???

What a waste! Go to the Hope - Infinitely better place.

Places like this need to exist to keep low-life pond scum away from the good pubs.

Amous, agree,i stopped going in here a couple of years ago, some nasty horrible drunk customers, making it a no go.

Went there first time ever today, with my wife. We had a J2O outside, started raining and we went inside. For our surprise, in less than 30 seconds the owner (a rude woman sitting by the bar) told us that if we wanted to stay inside we had to buy more drinks.
Of course we were disgusted with her behaviour, so we left the pub and will never ever come back there again.
She has no idea about how to run a business/customer services.
Dont try your luck or you risk ruining your weekend. 

best pub in sutton by far always a nice welcome when ever you go in there john and sharon are great

While not the prettiest pub from the outside & lacking a degree of traditional fittings inside, this pub could be a massively successful community pub. It already attracts a good local support & the food loked good value for money. TVs, darts & pool as well.

Sadly, however, a total lack of Ale means it will never get the trade it deserves. The IPA & Speckled Hen were both off. If they sorted out the beer, I would certyainly be there a lot more

This seemed like a friendly pub when I went in yesterday, but I'm afraid the Greene King IPA was the worst I had tasted anywhere for many months.

Returned last night for the first time in two years. All handpumps unused, which was disappointing. Food was good value though. Very suprised by the pleasant & attentive service from the barmaid & cook. Enjoyed my stay.

we had 4 pints in there last week at 5pm after work it was full of oneabe hard boy's sipping lager and each sip the louder they got, there as much use to a publican as a parashute on a sinking ship, from the out side it look's a nice pub and it is,it's the idiots that use it that will spoil your visit.

Located on Erskine Road which connects Sutton to St Hellier/Rose Hill. That says it all, Pikey central
dongschwang - 19 Aug 2008 14:10
Had a quiet pint of OKish Abbott at lunchtime. Looks like a quite good pub for the local area, but had a slightly tacky feeling throughout.
Wilson_MacDonald - 21 Feb 2008 20:27
I would give up drinking in pubs if this were my local. Nasty and cheap, full of absolute idiots, don't even think of taking a lady here. I cannot see what people get out of drinking in a place like this. Keep walking past.

The idea for car park scene in Fight club found the inspiration from this little boozer....

Luckily i parked my AV round the corner as i just had it cleaned

Formerly my nearest pub, but unless I could sit outside, I went elsewhere. I have overheard some inadvertently hilarious conversations as the neanderthals put the world to right.(Rants against Northerners Scots and Irish taking local`s jobs was the latest- a twist on the usual rascist spiel).

Punch ups are a feature of most Sutton pubs, this one is no worse or better than any other, but it at least does have an attempt at a car park where there seems to be a local rule that these take place.

The Butterchurn is one of the best pubs in the local area. The people are friendly. Good food, Pool table. Oh yea, and the beer that comes out of the taps is very nice and cheap!
darylann2 - 31 Jul 2007 20:24
I waited patiently to be served whilst the one member of staff was serving and the other was chatting.was totaly ignored and then someone else walked in and they served him. The place was not busy there were two people standing at a long bar! Now, that doesnt surprise me!

Regular punch-ups in the car park.
Overly loud bad karaoke.
OK beer.
OK to Average food.
Amazingly fast turnover of management.

If you havent tried it are you still tempted?

There is little likelihood of anyone who drinks here being able to read and write, let alone post three positive review on the same day. This can be a nice pub, it can be a big-time aggro pit the trouble is it frequently switches between both without a moments warning.

Watch out for spiders' webs (on people's faces that is).
bionicdog - 7 Aug 2006 15:47
I had probablly the best every pint of IPA ever a few weekes ago in here.

Shame the place was full of chavs and their spawn.
k0536006 - 2 Mar 2006 11:47
totaly revamped great pub now espicialy if the enlgnad are on the box.
wickes05 - 13 Oct 2005 19:07
Was below average, but beer has improved of late. Avoid if there is a sporting event on as the place get far too packed and noisy.
Bill - 19 Oct 2004 14:22
Bad points:unloved/neglected beer needs more care. Wider range of ales needed. V.busy when showing footie.
Good points: nice outdoor seating.
Mark - 21 Sep 2004 22:50
Above average pub with below average beer.

Leslie - 21 Sep 2004 10:00
An alright pub. Can get too busy when football is on so bare that in mind if there is a game on, but apart from that a nice enough place to get a drink in.
