user reviews of the Open Page, Earlsfield

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

It's quite obvious that Mr_Lash has no taste, considering the only pub he's given a good review to is a Weathersoons pub! The new open page ... "Mel's" is a god send - cheerful, polite staff, good food and great sunday lunches! Its for people with class, give it another try Mr_Lash if you dare!

Not exactly an historic booza though. It was only a few years old, didn't like it meself but definitely don't like the newy.

No longer a pub. Has reopened as Mels Caf Bar or some other such utter drivel. Another overpriced, mediocre, soulless and overpriced eating-joint.

Open Page wasnt great but at least it was a boozer.

The Open Page was a great disappointment after reading the reviews on this site. We went there for a social gathering to use the function room. What a sad depressing place it was, it was part of the bar area, pervaded by stale smoke and had no atmosphere. I was like dringing in a church hall corridor. It was barely capable of holding the small group of us (About 40) standing upright let alone trying to use the rickety tables and chairs lined up against the walls. The decor was jaded to say the least, and the toilets had to be seen to be believed. The food provided was a complete rip off. It consisted of some strips of pitta bread/ with dips, some quick fry Icelend snacks and a bowl of chips. What a joke considering it cost in excess of 300. (There must have been 30 work of food in total) I am used to London prices but at 3.20 for a pint in this environment - forget it. If this is the best pub in Earlsfield, I feel very sorry for the residents/users of the other pubs in Earlsfield. The only saving grace was the bar staff, friendly and quick to serve.

The Open Page is an excellent, welcoming pub with a good selection of drinks, friendly bar staff and a delicious menu. I have been drinking there now for around five years and a have been a member of their excellent Sunday social cricket team for four, the team is on the look out for more players this season so if you are interested drop in and give your details in to the bar staff

The best pub in Earlsfield by a mile. We went in on a Saturday night and it was busy but not crowded, with first class bar staff providing excellent service. The beer garden out the back was very pleasant on a warmish September evening and the burgers (mentioned below) did indeed look excellent, although unfortunately I'd already eaten. There's a non-smoking area at the back, with the only let-down being the size of the (clean) toilets. A 9/10 from me, and only because I couldn't give it 9.5!

The burgers have gone but they have been replaced by fantastic fish and chips from local award winning chippie Brady's

Great little pub, nice burger (wouldn't expect less for the price).

Really need to sort out the size of the restrooms. Not sure how they operate on a busy night with only room for 2 gents at a time. Hope you girls have a little more room
!

staff were helpful and the beer was well kept.

Best Pub in Earlsfield. Used to haunt the Pig and Whistle until it really started to depress me - The Open Page is much better, striking a happy medium between being too quiet and too busy. Bar staff are friendly as the place itself is clean and has nice decor. Budweiser on tap is a godsend for a veteran of years of Stella hangovers...

Nice pub, just what Earlsfield needs. Decent garden in the summer (with the crucial heaters), friendly staff, burgers look good.. not sure about the sport-with-no-sound policy but there's always 366 down the road if the commentary is essential! It's definitely better since they booted the builders. The London Pride was OK without being brilliant, they also had Budweiser on tap which is a plus. Good stuff people, thanks.

Had a fantastic night here last friday, great atmosphere! The staff were great and the manager very welcoming and looked after us all night. The burgers we had were top notch and better value for money than the overpriced Gourmet Burger Kitchen. Ill be back here most weeks now!

The Open Page is situated near Earlsfield station (garratt lane sw18)heading towards tooting & balham.theres sitting in front of the bar with a cool beer garden with heaps of greenery which is so peaceful. the service i got got was very professional from Ben,Irish Tom & the staff. the venue has air conditioning for the summer weather and tv screens for sports. there policy is to show sports with out sound so it doesn't disturb dining customers but the back ground music is pleasent and at the right volume, so you can chat. but.... as the night moves in, the pub starts to liven up. its a pub you must see!!!!

Friendly and helpful staff, great sunday lunch.I can reconmend the roast beef!

Best bar/pub in Earlsfield by far in my opinion. Deceptively large as the conservatory at the back has extra seating (and its own Plasma screen for sport!) and outside seating too. Food is fantastic (and good value). The Sunday roast is the best and has more beef than the All Blacks front row ! Friendly bar-staff and plenty of them so you don't have to wait forever to get served (even when it's busy). Well thought out lay-out means you can find a quiet corner or cosy nook for a chat or find a larger space to cater for more lively groups. I found it had a bubbly atmosphere without being too noisy or hectic.

Good Pub, with not a bad atmosphere, can be a bit loutish at times with builders that drink there. Nothing wrong with being pissed or making a bit of noise when pissed, however they do not like people that wear suits.

Nice smallish pub with small outdoor area. Burgers are very good but slightly overpriced imho
anonymous - 10 Jun 2003 15:52
I did see the burger thing but the McCains Crinkle cut chips with the burgers put me off - a bit naff. Try the Gourmet Burger Bar on Northcott Road in Clapham - now they are special.
anonymous - 7 Apr 2003 16:41
The Indain is now gone but has been replaced with a burger company which are some of the best i have had and at a great price.
stu - 7 Apr 2003 16:38
Bizarre combo of trendy bar pub with Indian food. Odd but kind of works - something for everyone - nice walled garden in the summer, but if you want Indian food there are so many better options yards away.
anonymous - 6 Jan 2003 16:52
can't believe they turned Soccer Saturday off just 10 minutes before full time.
